Soldering a Board Service
I have a bad usb port on a board.
Anyone know of a place i can send it to get the port replaced? With my basic soldering skills i think i would butcher the job. Thx!

If it were me and it has been, buy another board to you can get working again right away! THEN try getting under that plastic cover or underneath the board with a pin point solder iron ( no solder gun ), strong table magnifying glass and several bright lights to try it your self. If it is a multi layer board you're probably screwed or if the USB is used for data not just power or charging such as a phone jack give it a try. Cost to have a company do it is kinda high.

I've tried a few times with similar circuit boards and never had success. There's a lot going on in a tiny piece of real estate.

You need some skills and tools for that - solder braid, flux, alcohol, a solder sucker, etc. Take it to your local guitar amp tech and he can do it for you. Can't see how it'd be cost effective though, unless he cuts you a break. My tech is a good buddy, so wouldn't charge for something like that. But a $50 bench fee would be justified.

For $50 you can get what is essentially a heat gun for that type of removal. Search "SMD Hot Air Rework"

We had some success with Porsche alarm control units that had an obvious burned spot on the printed circuit. Soldering a very fine piece of wire across the burned portion worked more than once. YMMV.

Got a quote for around $75 from this place: https://www.wirescomputing.com/ A whole new board is more than replacing the unit. I'll take a look at the heat gun method...
