Whats your favorite Rush album ?

My kid is really diving into music. I'm so thankful that I'm not buying justin beiber and ed sheeren albums. He likes all the classics . Its been great sharing all the stuff that I came up listening to with him .

He has taken a liking to rush, and wants to grab up a couple of albums . I have always liked them, but never jumped in with both feet to learn all their works . We will be driving all night next week , and I we always try explore a few good albums that he has never heard before on the drive . I am not sure I can ever take them seriously after learning that Alex Lifeson was a drunk male prostitute . ![]()

			Overall album is Moving Pictures.

I cherry pick from many others. Analog Kid - Signals; Closer to the Heart - Farewell to Kings; Fly by Night; Freewill & Spirit of the Radio - Permanent Waves; YYZ, Mystic Rhythms...so on.

Moving Pictures here too. It came out when I was about in junior high so it came at the right time to influence my development. Tom Sawyer is my favorite Rush song and Moving Pictures seems to have the most songs I like to hear more than once on it. I understand that puts me firmly in the pop end of liking Rush, but frankly, I could never get into 2112.

Didn't particularly like Rush hearing them the first time...college dorm, freshman year, buddy had all their albums....the screeching voice methinks

. But Moving Pictures changed that....Started there for me....(then 2112, etc followed). |

My favorites, easily, is the stretch from Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. No don’t think any band had 4 consecutive albums better than that, to me. 2112 is great too, but not quite to the level of the other 4, to me. Love Caress of Steel, too. I guess I liked and listened to all of them, many many times, up to Moving Pictures. Didn’t like Signals at all and stopped listening to their new stuff after that. I think I’m going to watch the R40 movie tomorrow. The trailer looks so good. |

Their debut album started it off for me with "Working Man", Permenant waves album folowed it up with "Spirit of the Radio", loved every bit of Moving Pictures with "Red Barchetta" probably being my favorite.

I really don't care for their newer techno stuff. "Moving pictures was my Junior/Senior year of high shcool also (1982), and thrilled with the hard guitar licks, and fantastic keyboards, but the drums made me "air drum" more on that album than any other album ever. Best part? There was a small note on the back that said something like "for best results play at maximum volume." So I did. |

When I was in college, there was a guy across the hall that was into Rush. He had EVERY album (ok, CD). He played them all, all of the time. I can appreciate Rush, but after that much Rush, it all sounds the same, and I can't bring myself to listen to any of it any more.
