Clothes dryer

My clothes dryer keeps tripping the fuse. I bought a used machine and still tripping. Suggestions?

I assume you're talking breaker, not fuse.... mebbe it's bad?

Yeah, I'd swap the "fuse" with another fuse of the same rating. Or more to the point, the correct rating. Good luck, I'm sure it's nothing expensive.

Yep breakers do go bad and when they do one of the symptoms is tripping more than they should.

Usually not expensive at the hardware store and easy to replace. That would be my first course of business.

Sometimes a breaker needs to be replaced, other times the connections at the receptacle or breaker loosen with age and need to be secured better. Loose connections cause overheating and arcing. Hopefully your house was not built during the period when aluminum wire was used. I have had to replace quite a few outlets with loose connections, and pigtail copper on many an outlet that had aluminum.
If you replace the breaker, do not go to a higher amp. The existing wire will only handle a certain load before the risk of fire.

Is 10AIC000 the same as 10KA? 10AIC000 is the existing one. Only see the 10KA at hardware store. All other numbers matching.

I was in IT .... wait for someone who really knows... but...

My 220V dryer takes up 2 slots in the panel with a 30A breaker .... I just checked, and a quick search seems to confirm that's normal. Don't trust how a panel is labeled .... it could be wrong.

Twice as wide? Are you looking at a single pole and a double pole breaker? Single being 120 volt double being 240 volt.

Now at Home Depot. I guess the width is because it’s a double post. Both mine and the HD one say 30 amp 10xxx 120/240v-.
The difference is the xxx part. The HD one says kA. Of course no one here to ask. Thanks

Have you got another one of the same on the panel. that's what I meant by swapping it then test it out.

You need to match the brand of breaker to the panel box. 30 Amp is the rating. Not all 30 amp breakers will fit, or are rated to work in the panel.

Clean the vent, it may be building up heat. We had that problem with a new dryer.

I cleaned vent. Home Depot guy told me breaker would work. I’ll try tomorrow.

You are having the same problem with two different dryers?
Check the connections in the receptacle box, where the house wires are attached. Make sure they are tight and no heat discoloration. Tighten the connections in the breaker panel. Replace the breaker with an identical one. That's all I've got.

Have you considered cussing at it? I've never found it to do much good as far as making things work better, but it sure makes me feel better!

The only box I know of that needs the "exact" breaker is the Square D QO load center. Outside of that Square D has a "cheaper" line that called the HOM that can take GE, Siemens and several other brands.

Duh, why don't you try this? It's two minutes work. Really... It's not going to hurt you.

If you had the older 'screw in' type of fuses....you could just use a penny.
