The Art of Shaving, razor, kind of ticked off.

So about six years ago my wife bought me this really nice razor, brush and stand for them, extravagant, but it was for our 30th. The little plastic thing that attaches the Mach 3 blade to the razor handle is failing. I've communicated with the Art of Shaving, one of their stores, and Proctor & Gamble (their corporate parent). All of them tell me they won't sell or give me the little plastic piece that is failing.

I won't say what the razor costs, you can look it up yourself. But I can't believe for the price they won't sell/give that little piece of plastic that probably cost them $0.10 to make. I'd even pay a few bucks for one.

That sucks. One of the foibles of Modern Life. Do you know anyone with a 3d printer that could replicate that in metal?

Unfortunately its not just plastic, it had a release button and tangs that let go of the blade.

Right. I just looked at the website. I see the complication.

That's a tough one. Do you bite the bullet and buy a new one, (which will eventually break) or move forward and remember that she loved you enough to splurge on a great gift.

Is there something else you could keep in the little stand, maybe the safety razor you used as a Marine that keeps the keepsake alive?

Buy a new Edwin jaeger razor handle. They are super nice, chromed by the same guys that do Rolls Royce chrome.

Mine is 5 years old and still looks new.

Buy a new Art of Shaving razor, don't tell the wife, and let her think you're still using her gift all these years later.

Wow. Just looked at their website. Sounds so expensive to me. I thought $15 for a Schick five blade was a bit much.

This one?

https://www.theartofshaving.com/razors/Fusion®/engraved-razor-nickel-plated/00670535600114.html

Considering the cost I'd be pissed as well.

You need to communicate your level of "pissdom" to the manufacturer in very clear terms.

This is something I wouldn't give up on. I'd bet at some point they'll offer a acceptable solution.

Proctor & Gamble recently made my "no thanks" list...that stupid Gillette snowflake ad.

Know anyone with a 3D printer? Looks like it wouldn’t be too hard to replicate.

Ooops... never mind.

A review from their site...

Very Good But Should Be Great
I've used the shaver for three years and it has been very good. However, now the plastic mach blade holder that inserts into the stainless steel handle continually slips out and is difficult when trying to change blades. Think it may be broken. I thought for the price it would be a bit more robust, as I purchased it thinking that better quality would last. But guess not.

Totally sucks that they won’t fix it.
Is it the same part that is on the plastic handle Mach 3 shavers? Any chance you could buy a cheap one and swap out the plastic piece?

This is the end of a cheap Mach3. It looks like the black knob fits inside the gray plastic, and the assembly is pressed into the metal handle.

Any chance it's the same part as your busticated one?

Harry’s. Good solid handle and long lasting blade.

+1 for Harry's and my handle fits un the AOS holder next to the brush. As a bonus blades are pretty inexpensive too.

I just took a look at the web site. Their return policy is idiotic:

To obtain your refund, the defective, damaged or incorrect item must be returned to us, unopened and in its original packaging, with all accessories, within 30 days of the date upon which we provided the item to the carrier for shipment to you.

How in the world do you know it's defective if you haven't opened the packaging?
