Adventures in Trailer Wiring
I'm trying to do trailer wiring for the Chevy Express 3500 that I bought a few months ago. I came across an unused 12 pin Molex connector mounted just above the rear bumper. I assumed this was for trailer wiring, but I can't find anything that appear to use this connector. Does anyone have any idea what this is for? It has a part number of 33472-1206 printed on it....which turns out to be a specific model of 12 pin Molex connector.

I've been buying harnesses from sites like etrailer.com. Just punch in the year, make, and model.
Not sure of the year, but if this is it, well worth $22 : https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Chevrolet/Express+Van/2018/118392.html?VehicleID=20181170726 Even if you don't buy from them, they have installation instructions and videos that will point you towards the right wires.

That's actually the harness that I have. I just want to know what the heck the molex connector does.

Here's some pictures of the connectors with an unknown function:

I'd suspect some other commercial use- power for lights or noises, ambulance?
Worse comes to worst, roll your own. Install a conventional trailer harness. Easy.

General internet consensus is it's for backup sensors.
Connects to this - https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-GM-22899761-Object-Harness/dp/B00GUBLAIO Last edited by rockfan4; 09-08-2019 at 03:50 PM.. |

Thanks! Now I know it has nothing to do with trailer wiring.

The electric brake kits look like they use different type of connectors and thicker wire:
