Geo metro

I just saw an older white dude driving a Geo Metro convertible that looked to be in pretty pristine shape.

How weird is that?

It's almost like finding a unicorn. An ugly, baby poo brown unicorn with 1 eye, snaggle teeth and 3 legs.

looked like this

Dad had a hatchback and I liked it.
3 cyl toy motor.
Great mileage at 45-55mpg.
Lightweight. Very tossable. This teen tried his best a few times.
The whole thing is a crumple zone.

Door handle broke soon after.
Plastic replacement mechanism from GM was $350 or $450 I think. Even way back then.
I glued it together and it worked but I don't know for how long. He didn't say. I would have fixed it again.

I also pulled out the front grill mounts and replaced the top portion of the frame.
The metal was about as thick as aluminum foil.

One of the few cars I could win and refuse to take...

Friend had one, transmission fluid used to run up the odometer cable and drop on his shoes. At one point he put plastic bags on his feet to drive it...

Had a ‘93 that I bought new and in 2007 the front suspension literally busted where it rusted and the car tried to steer itself!

Best car ever for just doing appliance car things:

$7,000 new.
50mpg.
Several times I was able to have all for tires replaced for under $100 total.
Hauled like no one’s business; you could fill it with 8’ 2x boards and close the hatch. I put an empty 55 gallon drum in the back seat once. Hauled everything to build my deck- not in one trip, but still.
The rear windows vented for great airflow.
Clutch pedal was like butter.

Just a car, nothing more.

But you did not call it in to the A10 Warthog guy, did you?

This was a chance to remove ugliness from our world and yet you did nothing!

I drive one in Europe in 1986 - cute car. underpowered going up hills even with a manual transmission. Was built by Suzuki.

My father had one in the 90's as a commuter. No frills... nothing...
I like the diesels if I'm gonna get mid 40 mpg

How cool is that! It’s like having a Fiat 850 Spyder that’s not rusted out and runs and doesn’t leak oil - only faster.

Put a couple 12" subs in the back, good muzak, power it with a linked separate source, get some shades and hat.
And then get yer groove on big pimp daddy.

The guy who used to delver interstate batteries to me had 2 of them . One was an ex mary K cosmetcs metro, that was pink and the other one was robin egg blue .
We called them the easter eggs . He was a big burly muscular man, It was always amusing to see him sporting around town .
He said, he replaced the motor without an engine hoist . Him an his brother chained up off a 4x4 and heave hoed it up and out of the car .

I rented one once. Very difficult to join I4, when it was slightly busy, with so little power

ckelly78z 09-10-2019 01:28 AM

That car needs a Hyabusa motor with quiet mufflers.

My mom bought an 88 Chevy sprint brand new. She drove it for years. I passed my drivers test on it first try.

It was an automatic so extra peppy...
