Anyone here have a 1974 Honda MT250 Elsinore?
Asking for any input on this bike. I know it is an iconic bike but beyond that I have little knowledge.
The person I just bought the Interceptor from has an Elsinore and I expressed interest in buying it. I mentioned the possibility of doing a trade - my '74 Honda XL175 plus my '81 Yamaha XT250 for his '74 MT250 Honda Elsinore. But nothing more has been discussed. Just some initial chatter. The reason I mentioned trading 2 for his 1 bike is I'm low on storage space here and I think his Elsinore might be worth both of my 2 bikes in trade....so would help me manage my storage space and I'd have a pretty nice enduro. I don't have any pics of his bike but can tell you it's the street version with lights and is in good running condition. But back to the Elsinore - anyone here ever have one and what do you think? Thanks! ![]()

Back in the day I had a CR250M and it was the bomb. Never rode an MT.

Baz - The Elsinore MT never really caught on and didn't sell that many. The XL was more popular, being a 4 stroke. Around here, your XL 175 and XT250 are in demand with dual sport riders. You could sell either very quickly.......

Around here the XT 250 would sell for $2500 - $4000 depending on the year and miles. The XL not as much here because they struggle to go highway speeds very far comfortably.
The Elsinore was one of those bikes that kind of have a cult following but never lived up to the hype when new. That said, they are a "cool" bike and they are different than everyone else now. The old bikes are coming up in price for some reason. I saw a 1973 Yamaha Enduro 360 sold a month or so ago for $4000. It was in good shape, but still.

Thanks for the input so far, guys. Really appreciate it.
I do care about the value aspect for sure....but also realize I only have so much time to spend on my bikes and so much space, so was thinking like I said this would be a win-win, even if I take a small loss in $. I paid $1,400 for the XT and (I think) the same for the XL and the Elsinore owner wants $2,350 so in theory I'm going backwards but like I said - I still may be coming out ahead all things considered.

With the nostalgia thing I don't think you are going backwards much, assuming it is in decent shape, and it is a different bike. The XT and XL are pretty common bikes.

I never could get the XT to perform all that great - and maybe there's still a few more things to double-check. So this could be one resolution to that issue. With that said, maybe the new owner can figure out and resolve the issue with the XT - even better. We'll see what happens and I will certainly post more in the thread as appropriate. Hoping we can do something by the weekend anyway.

I had a 1974 Elsinore MT in college - it was a great bike. Road or Dirt - didn't do anything great - but enough fun for both. I'd buy another one

Well....I can tell you that Elsinore rides real good! The other party brought it here on his trailer and we discussed doing a deal and he just wasn't wiling to give enough value for my XL175, so for now we just didn't do any deal.
It's OK by me - I don't have enough room here anyway for another bike right now and would have only done this if it was an even steven 2 for 1 trade. I'm happy to have the VFR Interceptor - I rode it this morning and that sucker is crazy fast!
