1980s BBS RS and BBS RA gold paint code
So much info on the net, but this one still seems to be a puzzler.
I’m restoring another set of 80s BBS wheels (BBS RA). I’ve done this in the past, and could never find the paint code for the gold color. To this day, still can’t find it. I called BBS US headquarters and they don’t know either. To the guy’s credit, he seems to have googled it in the past and knew the same “latest” info that I could find, but it’s not very good. That includes the “Grimmspeed” gold spray paint that is sometimes touted as accurate. I used it a couple years ago, and while it’s an “ok” gold color, it’s more of a 2000’s Subaru BBS color. On an 80’s BBS cross spoke wheel, it’s not really close at all to original. That’s part of the issue, there’s been a LOT of different gold hues used by BBS on different aftermarket and OE wheels over the past 40 years. So, to put this to rest, I was able to dig up a NOS BBS RA wheel, and color match the right shade. I did a test spray and this is 99% spot on to my specimen. Certainly within the range of variance of wheels made during those years. Hopefully this formula helps other Googlers in the futurehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1568690955.jpg |

Nice pics, thanks for posting. I can add some silver to soften the deep gold tone of the 172, though I like the deeper gold and may stay with that.
Also won't be seen that much under 962 turbo fans. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750972558.jpg |
