Hey Scott, you drove that daily when I met you way back on those Ortega drives. How many miles have you racked up on that 996?

Jeff

I don't mean this as a dig in any way, but I'm surprised a 996 C4S is a 30k car.

I say drive it!

You are probably right. I can see a lower mile well kept 996TT increasing or at least holding value over time but not this one and with these miles it is probably at best a mid $20k car now.

Thanks for the inspiration.

No one ever looks back at the end and wishes they drove their favorite cars less. I wish I had driven some of mine more, I probably wouldn't have sold them off.

Having had a 996TT, that is perhaps the ultimate daily driver Porsche. Fast, fun, reliable, comfortable.

I say go for it. I daily drove a '83 944 for 10 years. Make your commute a little more exciting and fun.

I drove my (then new) C4S 12k in 6 months. Everything from going skiing to driving through NYC traffic - lived in the city back then and it was garaged there. Never a problem, never wanted anything else. I don’t mind driving stick in traffic though.

One word of advice - you really need snow tires in the winter if you get any snow at all. It’ll go sideways in an inch of snow at the drop of a hat on the summer tires. I made that mistake once - driving up towards Pico in VT when it started snowing - and even the AWD struggled to get me back straight and keep moving.

I think the question is "why not?"
Who you saving it for?
Mine is very comfy.

+1 million on the snow tires. I drive mine to the airport and it was nice and came home and it was snowing (typical Colorado, I know better...).

It was a white knuckler driving home. I have had snows on rear wheel drive v-8's before and they are the bomb.

Hey there, Jeff. I still drive that car back and forth to LAX. It has 207,000 miles now (it had 37,000 miles when I bought it in mid 2006). Paint is thrashed and it needs a second gear synchro, but it still runs and drives great.

We do get some cold and snowy winter weather here and when I bought the car I acquired a second set of wheels with Dunlop winter sports on them. They go on when the temps start getting below 50ish on a regular basis.

So the experiment begins. I sold my Subaru XT Wagon in about a second. I do have my truck for real ugly weather duties where the 911 would be a snow plow. Winter wheels installed. Found a Thule roof rack setup on Ebay. I've ordered a Double Din set up from CAI in California that will go in over next weekend. Tried a Dension Blue Tooth FM module but that didn't work worth a crap.

Enjoy. Sounds like fun. CAI/Rod is a great vendor/guy.

I bought my 2003 C4S 2 years ago, and used it here and there. About two months ago, I ran my daily-driver 4 runner low on gas, and topped it up with some crap gas I had in a suspect jerry can. It was in the shop for a month, and has been limping around since with fuel pump and fuel injector issues.

I the meantime, the 996 C4S has suddenly become my daily-driver, with 3 kids and all my work crap. It has been phenomenal, and of the 3 911s I have daily driven at different periods (my '81 SC and the '91 c4 I used to own), this car is hands down the best car for daily use.

I'm going to put winter tires on it and drive it, instead of putting it away like I have the last two years... I can't imagine NOT driving it now.

These cars aren't made of sugar, enjoy it
