We will return to the sea slowly but surely.

We are returning to the sea. We came from the sea, we will regrow gills and return. It is a natural process. This climate change is not a crisis, it is part of the constant change the world experiences. No need to panic. When our amphibian forefathers crawled on land they probably panicked a little also.

Kevin Costner was prescient?

masraum 09-21-2019 05:11 AM

hittin the sauce a little early today, aren't ya Dennis? ;) :D

dennis in se pa 09-21-2019 05:14 AM

"sauce"? I drink a little saltwater to prepare for the inevitable. Getting ready for the octopuses garden!

The rising sea levels will have a big impact on low lying real estate such as in Florida. Getting a house on the beach may sound great but in reality you can end up being under water....

KFC911 09-21-2019 06:13 AM

I've been buying beachfront property in Raleigh too :)

I learned a new word!

But I think Ringo had this idea years ago. :)

I think that our sun will probably supernova or burn out before your evolution theory happens. I am supremely confident that those who are alive today will be long gone before your theory is proven true. Of course, there have been politicians screaming an assortment of impending climate disasters within 10 years... for the last 50 years but that is another story for a different thread.

Yes - another possibility.

And yes the doomsayers have been around since the middle of the last century. Maybe longer.

Either way though - a change, it is a comin'. Just not soon.

our sun is way too small to ever be a super nova so you show your total lack of science
we have about 5 billion years to when it will go to a red giant
then it will collapse in a white dwarf but earth will be gone

lots of marine mammals but none have gills even after millions of years in the water

dennis in se pa 09-21-2019 06:53 AM

"so you show your total lack of science"
uncalled for - total lack of civility.

Por_sha911 09-21-2019 06:58 AM

I used supernova because people have heard the word and understand the idea. The term can be used is a broad sense of the word.
Quote:

A supernova is the explosion of a star. In an instant, a star with many times the mass of our own Sun can detonate with the energy of a billion suns. And then, within just a few hours or days, it dims down again. Some explode into a spray of gas and dust, while others become exotic objects like neutron stars or black holes.
https://www.universetoday.com/46644/supernova/

Technically, any star can explode at the end of its stellar lifespan. A red giant is also a possibility and either way it will be a bad day for planet earth.

Agreed...and I have nothing against nota....or anyone here for that matter.

I, for one, welcome our new amphibian overlords.

Just because one can use both hands equally well does NOT qualify them to be an overlord ;)

Old b-ball player joke....

not just the super nova bit SmileWavy
but the whole anti-science nut con's screed he posted about climate

both demonstrate a lack of understanding of the subject

I seldom comment on things I know little about
and even check on line before posting a bit
sorry if that upsets some here

I do note no objections to his mis-info or the nut con screed that belongs in parf

You started what will most likely become a PARF thread. Don't act surprised when it turns into one. Sometimes our actions have predictable consequences, whether we choose to accept our part in it or not. Most of those protesting lack of civility here are commonly capable of giving as good as they get.

You broached a touchy subject that some people can't wish or philosophize away. It doesn't matter how nicely you couch it. If you put lipstick on a pig, some people are going to see a pig and not respond as well as you might like. It is disingenuous to do it, and disingenuous to protest it.

FWIW, I'd like to think a lot of things that would be comforting; It doesn't make all of them true or likely. I could say a lot of nice things here, but what is the value if they have no valid content. There is a reason that we have a PARF. I am sorry if you think me blunt, but consider the actual message and not how you feel about it.

KFC911 09-22-2019 04:11 AM

Intersting perspective Daniel. I tend not to view things through a "political lens" (imo), because I have no political allegiance to either of the two sides...they BOTH suck imo. I'm guilty of starting threads here, that have political overtones....because I don't visit PARF anymore, and like to read perspectives of others that do not either. One of my threads was recently moved over....no problemo. The "tone" of PPOT has improved lately imo, and it hasn't gone unnoticed by me, and I think that's great, because....PARF is PARF...the uncivil side of discourse for many....take it or leave it.

I just leave it ;)

Am I as guilty as Dennis....yep.

I find your posts to be level headed and sound...unlike a LOT of mine btw....sometimes I push buttons...just because, but I never intend to be uncivil...at least I hope it doesn't come across that way....

Thank you...I will ponder this...

For the most part it will be Ok...

But not all mammals will be able to properly adapt and make a complete transition and will be, well, just odd and out of place.
