Advice needed - house sprayer
The north side of our 3 story house needs to be sprayed with Spray and Walk Away. I need a way to shoot it all the way to the peak, which is about 40 feet. I've looked at trombone sprayers that shoot 30 feet, my pressure washer has a siphon function that will mix chemicals with the water but it only works with the low pressure nozzle - not gonna make it to 40 feet with that.
Any ideas of an inexpensive (less than $100) pump to spray that area? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1569336814.jpg |
Not aware of one.
Extension ladder. For best results, you'll probably want to also scrub and rinse it. Wen I had a similar task at my house, I hired it out. Some things are not worth doing yourself, late in life. |
I've hired cleaners to do siding, it's not that expensive, about $350 for a 4200 sf house. They have a telescoping attachment for the power washer, with a brush on the end.
Looked like this, but had a scrub brush on the end: https://www.amazon.com/North-America-Telescoping-Lance-Fiberglass/dp/B0091NWNFC/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=power+washer+extension+br ush&qid=1569337643&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExTVlYR kxSVk5PQ1RZJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzcxMjAxMjdJTDNUMUV UWTdCNiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzEzOTU1SEgwWFNLV1ZWT UlUJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGl yZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== |

I did this 2 times to my house. I got two aluminum poles that you use for a skimmers in a pool. I got a sprayer and went to home depot and got a really long length of the same size tubing that was on the sprayer. I mounted the wand to the top of the aluminum tube and sprayed with my 30 or 40 foot extension-don't remember. Broke it down to one pole when I got lower. It actually worked great. I couldn't power wash or anything but you just need it wet with the spray away. No precision needed.
I think it was $50 for everything. I did borrow the aluminum poles. We also have bamboo that grows on our property that I have duct taped together to make extensions. I have dormers on my roof so I just leaned out the window and was able to do a decent job. I bet you could lean out of most of the windows on the side and get most of the siding. |
Good luck. I found that the bleach spray (which is usually what that stuff is) does an OK, but not great job. I found that it was more labor intensive, but I used a soapy, bleachy solution with an extension ladder and a cheap mop with magic eraser heads. The magic erasers work like magic.

Hmmm. I have lots of aluminum poles. I have a pump sprayer. All I need is some tubing. I might spray what I can from the windows this fall and get the top next spring when I have more time. I shot some Spray and Walk Away on the area around the window on the lower right about 3 weeks ago. The stuff is dead, I’m just waiting for some rain th wash it off. |
I taped the sprayer on and sprayed while my kids pumped up the pressure tank. it actually went pretty quickly.
I thought about getting one of the big water guns that kids use to spray the hard to reach areas on my roof. We aren't painting so the spray pattern doesn't have to be neat, just wet. Super soaker |
Pump sprayer from the windows. That's how I did the fiberglass awning over my patio.

I've had good success with bleach using an Ortho sprayer and then rinsing with just water about 15 minutes after the bleach. I was able to hit the side of the house about 25' high.

You guys use bleach to clean and kill the mold?

Not often I'll say this but... I'd hire someone to do this job. If you're not going to hire someone, rent a pull behind basket lift from a local rental store.

I googled something like "long distance sprayer" this am when I first saw this. Seemed like several good options were shown. I was thinking a pneumatic assisted gizmo or super soaker type deal. Let the internet do your work. Other's have had the same problem I am sure.

I'm ready to just leave it alone, but MrsWD wants the green to go away. :( |

If MrsWD wants the green to go away bad enough suggest to her that she hire somebody.

Patrick....did you get a quote on this job? If not, I would.
It may not be as expensive as you think -especially given the crap you'll go through trying to do it yourself - and possibly still failing to some degree to get it done properly. Just my 2 cents. I applaud & respect your DIY attitude, BTW. |
