I'm going to resurrect this thread to show what I ended up doing... Rather than painting my old Carrera Sport Design wheels, I decided to buy some used Carrera S 10-spoke wheels in Anthracite grey...

The first photo was taken in overcast conditions, and the second in late afternoon sun. I was amazed at how the Platinum Sliver metallic paint changes hue so dramatically in different lighting conditions... definite gold hue in the waning sunlight...

Based on those two photos the silver is WAY better.

Yes, that's why I changed wheels (different design) to get the grey color that I prefer. The older sport design wheels look better in silver, I agree.

Buying a second set was a good compromise, now you can switch between two sets.

Personally, I still prefer the silver wheels.

Solid silver 1st or two tone 2nd

Solid black just does not work

Dark wheels look like you lost your hubcaps.

Silver.

The silver ones pictured are extremely difficult to wash. One of my favorites back in that era was the "minilite" looking factory rim. Good looking IMO and easy to clean.

Silver. The gray ones look like they’re pre-filthed with brake dust.

Those look really great and will be much easier to clean! I hate cleaning split spoke style wheels.

The reflection in the windshield looks like someone smacked a rock at it.

Oh yeah... Silver.

(I saw a guy at autozone who bought a can of black spray paint- went out to parking lot and started spraying his wheels without even cleaning them to make them look sharp- re 'blackening' them, black paint, tires, brake dust, and all, and I can't get past that)

Tesla truck look is all the rage.

I found the silver wheels to be impossible to keep remotely clean. A couple trips around town and they were covered with brake dust and dirt. Plus, I'm not really a big fan of the Carrera Sport Design wheel style. The platinum satin was just the look I was after, and it holds up well between washings.

Either the same as the body or completely different.

Grey, provides some contrast to the silver car.

+1

Carries the (contrasting) color continuity of the front grille and bottom half of the mirrors. Plus as Zoo mentioned, it will hide brake dust way better.
