Another race horse euthanized!

"A horse was euthanized Saturday after breaking both front legs during a race at Southern California’s Santa Anita racetrack, becoming the 32nd to die at the track since December." How is horse racing still allowed? The animals are not treated well, ever. Would you want to die and come back as a race horse? Not much different than dog fighting to me. And it is SUBSIDIZED in Pennsylvania. This is HORRIBLE!
These horses are not pets, they are meant as cash registers.

You are right. I had a friend who owned race horses. They were not living beings to him, just units in his bizarre “business” scheme.

I ride an off the track Thoroughbred with a substantial pedigree. He's magnificent in appearance and spirit. And he LOVES to run.
Its a shame that at lower levels the horses are abused, drugged, raced when not fit. Shoot, more horses die in morning workouts that in races. Recent Deadspin piece on a guy whose's mission it is to end racing got me thinking.
I'm totally willing to accept the risk of clean racing, despite the money involved. Its the creeps that need to be driven out. We may be past that point.
To give you an idea of the economics, my guy sold at the Keenland yearling sale , on the last day, for 95k. That was cheap. 2 years and 5 races later, he was a $400 adoption. His bloodline is Seattle Slew/Mr. Prospector.

I'm conflicted.

OP, excluded, I wish people were outraged at victims of sex trafficking as much as they are over puppy mills and race horses.

You don't think folks are outraged about that stuff?

If you know where the local sex trafficking ring keeps the girls and auctions them off?

I don't know about you, but other than that I know that they exist, I don't know where they exist and I don't see anything about them other than the occasional article about a bust in the news.

Animals being abused is also horrible.

Sex trafficking is less immediate in my experience, I’ve heard about it, but never seen it. I’ve seen animal abuse first hand. I’m not a violent guy, but could get medieval on people who abuse animals. My DIL was a foster parent for the local Pit Bull rescue. The things people do to dogs will make you sick.
