Porsche may be in trouble in the GT Lemans IMSA class...Daytona gonna be interesting. Probably will be bugs needing to be worked out early on though.

It will all come down to how the race officials penalize it in weight, or fuel allowed on board.

It has to be a challenge to balance the performance to make a fair race between a Front engine BMW, Mercedes, mid engine Ferrari, Lambo, or now the Vette and the venerable 911 with the engine where is should be! ;)

The 911 got its first class win at Daytona in 1966. The guy drove it to the track, put on race tires, added a roll cage, and the needed lights for the numbers, and drove it and won.

Just a little 2.0 liter street 911. It was the second 911 ever sold in the state of Florida.

Nope, the Ford GT has been mid engine since inception. IF you have the $$ and can qualify to get on the list.

Daytona has its own BoP. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I would not be surprised if there is a little sandbagging at the ROAR.

Is it even a Corvette. I think Corvette I think Long hood, motor in front (Gold Chains, hairy chest, Just Kidding). The car has zero resemblance to the past.

I think they should have gave it a new name and continued the Corvette. $120k price tag is crazy. It's ruining the affordable super car that can compete with the world's best. I've never liked the Vette styling but totally respect their capabilities. It's an Icon. Any connection to the past? I don't see it.

Same thing was said in 1968 when the C3 was introduced.
Same thing was said in 1984 when the C4 was introduced.

The C5 was the first Corvette that had styling somewhat linked to the previous generation.
C5 was the first that didn't push the styling to extremes.

Come on, a base C8 to a C8R is like the difference between a 911 Carrera and a 911 GT3 RSR.

But the new corvette is mid engined. Things change. Corvette's had a pretty long run (longer than the 911) since 1953, every year except 1983.

The Ford GT has been campaigned in various racing venues. These include:
- A highly modified GT was raced in 2006 and 2007 in Super GT's GT300 class in Japan powered by a 3.5 L Ford Zetec-R engine produced by Cosworth in the mid-1990s for Formula One.
- A Swiss team Matech Concepts entered three Ford GTs modified to GT3 class specifications in the FIA GT3 European Championship. Matech won the Teams title in the 2008 Championship.
- Atlanta-based Robertson Racing entered a Doran-built Ford GT-R in the American Le Mans Series GT class (formerly GT2). The team made its first 24 Hours of Le Mans appearance in 2011, scoring 3rd position overall in the GTE Am Class.
- Black Swan Racing entered a Falken Tires-sponsored Ford GT-R in the GT2 class in the American Le Mans Series during the 2008 season.
- Ford Chip Ganassi Racing is currently running 4 factory-supported Ford GTs. Two in the FIA World Endurance Championship under the LMGTE Pro class and two in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the GTLM class during the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons.


Heck, even the Pontiac Fiero has a race history in IMSA, notably winning the 1987 IMSA Manufacturer’s Cup.

Not sure Alex T. would see it that way as I think the centerline of the Fiero's transverse engine and majority of the transaxle sit behind the centerline of the rear wheels.
