anyone else on the gulf coast of fl?
Finger mullet and shrimp in the cast net can yield a nice red or two on a line :)

Grew up on Santa Rosa Island and although I haven't lived there in over 30 years, it still counts as one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. You really take things for granted when they are your status quo.
The gulf up there is typically a clear, emerald wonder, splashing onto pure quartz silica white sand beaches--and I have never seen another one exactly like it anywhere in the world I've traveled. Enjoy! |
Nice catch , and shirt there, id10t
Do you get out fishing much? I'm located in Ebro, about 15 miles inland from PCB. About a mile from the choctawahatchi River. Haven't done any fishing here yet, interested in learning about fishing local waters. I thought you were over near Tallahassee some where. If you are close by, maybe I could get some tips sometime. You've got some legendary places near you - Destin, etc. In your shoes, I'd get to Walmart and get a 7-foot-ish spinning rod set up that handles 12-20lb test line, some 1/0 circle hooks, egg sinkers or pyramid sinkers in a few different weights, some swivels and some plastic beads. Weight on line, then bead, then swivel. Then a piece of line about 2 feet long with the hook on the end, use fresh shrimp or room-temp squid as bait and you should at least be catching. Beyond that, it is all local knowledge. Typically fishing will be best for a given area either as tide comes in or goes out... and no, I don't know why that is... that whole local knowledge thing. |
Yes...for another hour or so. (Waiting at airport now) Been in ft Myers the last week.
Yesterday, biking the trail on Sanibel, came up on a 8ft (or more) gator laying diag on the asphalt bike path. Waited about 5 minutes for him to move...wouldn't budge! Had to ride thru the rough to get past him. Wasn't sure how much room to allow him...I heard they can jump their length...if hungry! He looked like he was just enjoying the hot sun. |
St Pete here

Punta Gorda here. We are currently looking for a house on the water, well actually it will be a canal that feeds to the water.

Inland fishing not bad either  Crooked Lake is a bass fishing mecca.

Good tips there id10t, thanks. I've got a few poles here from light fresh water gear that I carried in the motorhome for my boys when they joined me, to surf casting gear of my brother's. Plus he has a Hobie fishing kayak I can use.
Most of the fishing I've done for many years is dragging a lure on a heavy hand line from my sailboat. Sort of a meat hook style of fishing, not much sport but productive. Lots of types of waters to choose from around here fresh, brackish, bay waters and the gulf. I've just got to put my mind to it and go wet some lines. Quite the gator encounter there Steve, sounds like a nice close look you got. Cool pic Curt! Cheers Richard |
