just Mr. Clapton left with us
|
He’s played with many greats since Cream. Was an accomplished jazz drummer most notably with Bill Frisell. Loved African music and jazz fusion. The man upstairs just added a great addition to that great band in the sky. RIP.

One of the greats. I am fortunate to be of an age and era that brought a helluva lot of great music. Clearly remember Fresh Cream playing again and again as I digested every note. Still a few tunes in my Ski Tunes, notably, "I Feel Free". And every Cream album, Blind Faith, Air Force and some of his jazz work in my collection.
Saw Baker and Buddy Miles at the Arie Crown way back. Baker was seriously into the African thing and played a hollowed log at one point, a smoke dangling from his lips. "Beware of Mr. Baker" should be popping up on Netflix again and I think it is worth watching. Incredible ego but an incredible talent to go with it. RIP Mr. Peter Baker. |
RIP Mr Baker, but that red hair was no lie so you may find heaven boring.
|
We lost Robert Hunter a few weeks ago and now Ginger Baker. Two very talented men, Its tough getting old and seeing all your musical heroes go away. Todays music is crap compared to the Cream era. They mastered their instruments and their lyrics said something.

Another true heavyweight has gone...
RIP to the talented Mr Baker. Thank you for all you gave us. |

Damn! Time to dig out some old vinyl and power up my techniques turntable.

Any truth to the rumor that Animal (of Muppet fame) is a blood relation?
(...that's two in the last six months. Hal Blaine was also very tom-tom oriented.) Bill K |

What has Clapton said about his time with Cream?

Great bass mix in the White Room clip above
|
I absolutely loved his drumming on White Room. I closed my eyes and it instantly made me think of my many cross-country trips on a train, falling asleep as the wheels clicked and clacked and the couplers shifted and thumped.

Thanks for posting that, Abisel. Amazing solo. If i read that right, he was 66 at that time.

God Speed!

A couple of my close friends put up a production of Sam Shepard’s play, “Savage Love,” back in the ‘80s in L.A. Somehow or another, they got Baker to do the musical accompaniment. I have no idea how, I guess that’s something for me to ask them next time we talk.

Thank God he is alive in all those recordings, the documentary film Beware Mr. Baker and finally in Animal! from the Muppets- who is in fact immortal.
