It's one thing to be the innovator, another to be the imitator.

1976, saw the for free in the Glendale College Quad where I was a student. They didn't suck.....

I like what they both brought to the band, but always thought they could have been one of the best bands ever if they had Axl Rose or Steven Tyler upfront.

Speaking of Axl, GNR plays ACL tonight and the wife went, I declined the free tickets. She has never seen GNR, only Slash, who we saw a few months ago with his new outfit. I saw the original band in the early 90's, then again with Matt Soren on drums later. I liked them better when they were all juiced up on heroin.

Sammy Hagar was not nearly the showman and his raspy voice was dated. He had stronger pipes than Roth but not the right fit for the band. Tough act to follow.

Roth coulda just got over himself. Wish his ego was a little more curbed.

If any of you guys are into rock star bios, check out Van Halen Rising. It's a pretty well-researched history of how VH came to be, and ends right after the 1984 tour. Lots of great photos and stories, and you Pelican guys from the LA area will especially enjoy all the local shout outs.

I have a close friend who just bought a guitar from a guy who, blah, blah, has connections to the band. He said Ed went down on his motorcycle a while ago, broke both hands and then, while in the hospital, was found to have lung cancer. It gets worse, but that's what I heard was keeping them from touring last summer with Michael Anthony.

Dave all the way. Nothing against Sammy but they just never sounded like VH again to me

As for Bon or Brian. Love them both but prefer the Bon era. Gotta respect Brian for what he did though. Tough to follow Bon but he did it very well

I’m a Sammy guy. I definitely gets more of a work harder, drive faster buzz with Sammy. David was great too but not as much my taste. The one constant, Eddie is still my favorite guitarist though I’m not a musician so I’m just going off what I hear and see.

I have to learn these posting tricks. Post dreams and let them go head to head. Though I think your song showcases Eddie better.

I didn't know Debbie Gibson wrote music for Van Halen. :D

Van Halen with Dave.

SH as a solo.
I found Sammy in my mid teens when he released Street machine and then Danger Zone.

Was not a huge fan of Diamond Dave as a solo act although he had a few hits along the way.

LOL, but this sums it up for me. The energy and attack of the DLR VH is what I loved. With SH, they were more like any pop band. Ugh.

DWBOX2000 10-12-2019 06:27 AM

I saw her in concert. It’s was my brilliant idea to be around a thousand hot chicks without any competition. Still a fail. “Didn’t even look in my general direction”.

I blame MTV for the ruination of Van Halen amongst others.

URY914 10-12-2019 11:22 AM

Sammy

DWBOX2000 10-12-2019 11:23 AM

Nothing wrong with pop. Loved New Edition, boys to men, run dmc, (maybe 90’s), g&r . I’m was a teenager of the 80’s.We has rock, pop, rap and everything in between. Heck some of my friends like the 60’s 70’s stuff. All seemed okay to me. curious who did they sound like?

Scott R 10-12-2019 11:38 AM
