Anyone here into HAM radio? I just ordered the ARRL book so I can get my beginners license.

There are 15 or more Radio Shacks in Michigan.
I used one just last year for caps for my clock fix in the 78SC
The store was much smaller with mostly small board components. (no radios, phones, antennae, or stuff like that)

I'm a "Tech Plus", which means I passed my Novice and Tech back in the day. I just need to take the General exam to upgrade, since the Morse requirement was reduced to 5 wpm for everything.

My most interesting contact was in 1991. I was using a 10M SSB radio in my car and I was able to talk to someone on the barricades in Moscow during the attempted coup.

I had my licenses, Ham and commercial in the 70's until I dove into computers early 80's. Wish I hadn't let them expire in college instead of renewing.

Used to have to travel to a regional FCC office for the tests, I took them in NYC, Varick street. Then a trip to canal street, when it used to be surplus electronics and ham equipment stores.

As for components..... Mouser, Digi-key, Allied, Newark, and believe it or not, Amazon.
