I took the car to the alignment shop for my appointment today. What a disappointment (no pun intended). The old optical alignment rack was gone and the old timer who knows VWs and 356s like the back of his hand was off sick. They turned his apprentice loose on me with a Hunter computerized alignment rack. At least the kid was familiar with king and link suspension. He told me right off the bat that if the camber was off he wouldn't have time to take it all apart and adjust the shims. I told him don't worry about it.
It turns out my backyard alignment wasn't that bad. The spec is for 30 minutes +- 15 of total toe and I had 9 on the left and 8 on the right. They tweaked it a little bit, to get 15 and 14. As expected the caster and camber were in spec, though a little wonky (asymmetrical). You have to bang one of these things pretty hard or put it together way wrong to get those adjustment out of whack.
I didn't ask him about corner balancing, though I'm sure he has the same factory VW shop manual Burnerboy has with that lengthy chapter on corner balancing.:D:D

Could you tell the difference on the drive there and the drive back?

No, but I was smiling more on the ride home. :)
