Beaufort, NC

A guy on a pool site I visit mentioned that he'd found a hidden gem there. Well, to pay only $2 per hour to play on classic anniversary Brunswicks is one hell of a bargain. But clicking on the menu also blew me away. I haven't seen prices like that for decades here. Evidently, the longest running business in Beaufort.

If I lived there, I'd be a "regular"...places like this are vanishing from the country's landscape. That's our loss.

(edit) A better review

I loved the wear marks in the linoleum the pool tables are on. Not hard to see which end of the table people break from. Gives the place additional character.

The UofM got rid of their pool hall which was open to the public. Nice tables, super thick slate, and low cost hourly.
I'm bummed. Except for a few crowded bars there is nothing else in the area.
"Not used much" was the excuse.

https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/2018/03/pool_tables_from_iconic_michig.html

All part of the $85M renovation to the UofMich Student Union.

What are they changing it to?
A massive steel/glass courtyard in the center with a row of cubicles above along the edges. People always walking by. No privacy.
They are keeping the narrow stairwells. Most of the stone and old wood of these hallowed walls will be removed as well.

It's going to turn into a shopping mall food court. A chicken farm. A noise factory.
How very un-relaxing.

Some admins and their architect need a swift kick in the gonads.
