Lol!

ficke 10-28-2019 05:13 AM

Wanting to protect the legacy of Hitler and the Nazi party I find absurd. Exposing the flaws of the Nazi party and the thinking of the time is a great.
JOJOP Rabbit sounds like a great film and I am looking forward seeing it.

^^^ No thanks.

Por_sha911 10-28-2019 05:45 PM

First off, as stated the movie doesn't mock the Nazi regime. It has fun of kids bumbling their way through trying to be good Nazis.

Second, the whole concept of "everyone else thinks its fine so you should" is absurd. The degradation of ethics and morality have made society the cesspool it is today.

If you enjoy movies that make light hearted fun out of abominations like the holocaust then have at it. I'll pass.

Tervuren 10-28-2019 05:55 PM

Eh, this is one where without watching it I won't criticize it.
On a different but related note, I probably wouldn't know racism existed unless I was told about it.
Kids, have the unique opportunity to be so many things either by what they know or don't know.

My personal favourite outrage is when you do not depict any particular dictator; yet still have dictator's ban the film.

Here's looking at you Duck Soup.

Not 9/11 itself but the perpetrators?

Sure. Bin Laden was caught with a cache of porn. A little digging should turn up other of Bin Laden’s unsavory foibles that make his followers look naive, if not stupid, and all of Al Qaida look like a bunch of brainwashed idiots.

sc_rufctr 10-28-2019 06:35 PM

Bin Laden had how many wives? - And diabetes! Do you think he ever felt betrayed by Allah? ;)

Matt Smith 10-28-2019 09:35 PM

Probably none of you have actually watched the movie, me included. The director, Taika is a Kiwi, and he has surprised us all before with his talent in storytelling and direction. Some here are extremely quick to have an opinion.

Shaun @ Tru6 10-29-2019 01:49 AM

Well said Matt. I learned he is also Jewish while doing more research based on the surprising response this thread received.

Tobra 10-29-2019 04:53 AM

You are surprised? Do you think it was not intended to be controversial?

Tervuren 10-29-2019 09:16 AM

Well?

Were we offended at Tim Conway and Harvey Corman and the Carol Burnette show?

Having fallen in love with this film, I have the benefit of watching 10 or so cast interviews to answer your question. While I can't know Taika's exact intentions, the idea for the screenplay came from his mother who relayed the story from the book "Caging Skies" to him.

Watching all of the interviews, there is no sense of creating a controversial story. In fact as I said earlier, it's a complex, elegant and beautiful one. Though from the interviews, it's a very simple one too, about being a single mother. I guess that's what makes it so elegant. All of the acting is first rate, Scarlett Johansson gives a wonderful performance.

It's a movie that can and should be seen more than once because there are so many clever little details, it should be even more fun the second time. I'm going again on Friday night.

Not a movie person, but I decided to watch the trailer.

Seems like it has a lot of potential.

Trying to debate binary thought with directional thought is a lost cause.

You should know this by now, but you are a directional thinker and suffer that burden.

Rejoice in it.

Tobra 10-29-2019 06:47 PM

Does the trailer misrepresent the film somehow? It is supposed to be funny, right?

I did not say it was intended to be a controversial story.

No you did not say it was intended to be controversial but you certainly seem to have already come to that conclusion.

Seems like you are being rather judgemental because some of us don't find the movie acceptable so you deflect your judgement on us. No one has said we should burn or ban the movie. I just find the trailer presented to be in poor taste and I won't support it.

As far as being Jewish... He may be a non-practicing, non believing Jew in blood line only. That doesn't legitimize poor taste. Rather that just makes him a schmuck.

If you find that movie to meet your tastes. Go for it. I'm not saying you are bad for finding it acceptable and I ask you to not judge those who thinks it is trash.

I could be wrong but it seems Shaun has seen it.

Have you, or anyone else here, who is judging it based on a two minute montage?

ficke 10-29-2019 07:26 PM

As a society we have become so prudish than before. Not trying to say weather it is bad or good, but a fact. This movie offends many, blazing saddles which can not be shown on TV any more with out bleeping out the parts of the script because it is so offensive to the young minds of today. Probably most of Mel brooks films for that matter could not be made today or Monty Python films.
And Comedians can not do acts at Universities for risk of offending young minds, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kVdHr7sR0o I never new it was such a wild world when I was young.
I guess we just were more tolerant and progressive back then to art and ideas even ones that might offend than the youth of today.
