Greg Moore 20 years ago today
|
Sad day. I was spectating at Fontana that day along with many of my colleagues from Toyota's CART program. I'd moved to the USA in May of that year to come and work for TRD but had previously been working with Mercedes so had met Greg before. It was only a few laps into the race when he crashed. Even without seeing it everyone there had a bad feeling, although I don't think they announced anything until the race was over. Greg Moore was one of those guys that everyone liked. A good, honest, and talented racer. Left an empty feeling. Thanks for posting.

I made the mistake today of watching the crash again, saw it then on abc and it changed racing for me forever.
For those that don't have a half hour, skip thru to the last 10 minutes of Tracy and friends talking about Greg's love of the outside line on the ovals. Explains a lot. He started last that day and was up near 12th what? 5 laps in when he lost it. |
Wow has it been that long?
We’ve lost a few.. I will say as a Canadian, I will say we are silently thrilled when one of our own makes it to the world stage, as always publicly sad when it comes to an end. God Bless |

I remember that like it was yesterday. Was watching the race with my wife, and we both knew he was dead as soon as we saw the impact. I had just seen him at the race at Portland earlier that season. A wonderful kid with endless talent, gone too soon. CART--Team Penske, in fact--also lost Gonzalo that year at Laguna Seca. I think he was filling in for Little Al who was having his personal troubles, IIRC. Crashing sucks. |
Hard to believe it's been 20 years I always thought he was a good guy . Thanks for posting the video clip , Max Pappis telling the story about mac and cheese out of a box was funny . I can only imagine the stories Paul Tracy can tell !
