Wow - that is very surprising. I wonder how they get away with that, with, as you say, the entire lake now surrounded by apartments. Great places to watch from, I'm sure, but I bet the fans are outnumbered by folks who probably hate the noise.

So, I'm told the old Sammamish Slough races are back as well. In a way, anyways. They start at the boat launch on Lake Washington and head upstream just a little bit, then turn around. I remember as a kid when they were running from Marymoor Park all the way to Lake Washington.

One of my buddies in Junior High had a kneel-down outboard hydro. Weird setup - some trolling motor drive with a McCulloch chain saw motor for power, with a big tuned pipe sticking way out the back. He let me take it out on Lake Sammamish a few times, but I never got to run it down the slough.

Jeff, great thread and I'm jealous of you as a kid

Seeing unlimited hydroplanes was on my 1st bucket list and this thread has put it back on my 2nd bucket list

When I was a kid I was very lucky to see inshore F1 powerboats racing on a swampy lake or in the sea in a harbour, Also watched offshore powerboats blast past once on their way back to Miami on my birthday too.

Most exciting thing I'd ever seen, the sights, sounds and smells like stay with us forever

Also got me into a whole heap of trouble later in life too ;)

More reciprocating engine goodness. Interestingly, no intercoolers on this twin turbo Allison. Seems to have its own unique form of somewhat crude "water injection", however:
