Looks like the Seattle Outboard Association still does racing on Silver Lake in South Everett each year. I haven't been since the early 90s but it was a good time back then and probably still is. Kind of surprising since the lake is now surrounded by apartments.

Wow - that is very surprising. I wonder how they get away with that, with, as you say, the entire lake now surrounded by apartments. Great places to watch from, I'm sure, but I bet the fans are outnumbered by folks who probably hate the noise.
So, I'm told the old Sammamish Slough races are back as well. In a way, anyways. They start at the boat launch on Lake Washington and head upstream just a little bit, then turn around. I remember as a kid when they were running from Marymoor Park all the way to Lake Washington.
One of my buddies in Junior High had a kneel-down outboard hydro. Weird setup - some trolling motor drive with a McCulloch chain saw motor for power, with a big tuned pipe sticking way out the back. He let me take it out on Lake Sammamish a few times, but I never got to run it down the slough.
