Thumbs up Democracy - OT - nothing to do with Porsche's - crossposted

After been accosted for the n’th time by well-educated spotty teenagers protesting the war, proudly proclaiming “not in my name”.

It struck me that they have the ability to do so because they are free to voice their opinions. They have a democratic right to congregate to speak out against “a” government, without fear of retribution, without fear of being “whisked away” in the dead of night, without fear of torture, death or injury to there family and friend’s.

Democracy is a great thing but don’t think for one minute that it is free. People have fought and died for you and me to have this right, paying with their lives.

NO, freedom of speech is not free my friend it has been paid for and if your lucky it has been paid for by someone else, probably someone who never even knew you.

Only in a democracy can you have two opposing views openly discussed, the racist, the bigot, the fascist. Let us not forget religion we have the right to worship how, whom and what we want, again without fear of persecution.

It strikes me that these things I take for granted, I can do. I could never imagine, not being able to (in my own inimitable way) spout rubbish, my own POV, or argue a case without having the plug pulled (or my fingernails) for that matter.

Just imagine having to fight for a government not because you wanted and believed in it but because if you didn’t you may not see your family.
Or imagine fighting for a government because your only view of the world was from one sided propaganda.

Hey, lets not go to war, lets just wait till more planes come crashing down or people get sick from anthrax or some bright person decides to use a “dirty” fusion bomb in the Docklands, L.A, Delhi, or Sidney.

To the guys (and girls) out there putting there lives on the line, look after yourselves, kick ass and watch your six.

To the people who constantly barrage me with there slogans, sit ins, email signatures, flyers and words, go find a whale/rain forest or pit pony to save you may have the right but you certainly haven’t earned the right.

Just my rant for the day, don’t need to be proven right or wrong, it is just what it is. Haters don’t bother replying, just keep on stepping.

Peace Out

Adrian
(not having earned the right either but grateful he has)

hmm...i have doubts that this war is being fought to preserve democracy.

It's more a misguided PR-coup than democracy fight. Actually, personal freedoms have been slightly reduced in last years...in case anybody cared to check.

Hey Goran! I thought you were going back to the kitchen to make some more meatballs???

It's really amazing to listen to (read) the comments from someone who has no idea what the hell he is talking about. You sit over there in your little third-world country and pretend to lecture America and Americans on how our policy and politics should be. I'm reminded of something that was said by some one else, who really knew what they were talking about.

"For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a taste the protected will never know."

Trust me, it tastes so much better than your silly little meatballs!

Yeah, i forgot. I was trying to talk food with guys flipping burgers...

As quotes seem to be popular here's few coming to you directly from "third world country" sweden to you in "first world country"

"It is the test of a good religion whether you can joke about it. "
--G. K. Chesterton

"I think I'll believe in Gosh instead of God. If you don't believe in Gosh too, you'll be darned to heck." - - anonymous

"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is
one nation under God." - - George Bush

"God is love
Love is blind
Ray Charles is blind
Therefore, Ray Charles is God"

Surely atheism is a religious belief like an other. I thought the U.S. constitution guaranteed freedom of worship. Or did I misunderstand the quote or the constitution?

I just stumbled on this quote on internet along some other "gems" Bush family has left to mankind.

About atheism being a religious belief, i don't know its official definition in U.S. I personally see it more as absence of religious belief rather than just some other kind of same, so it might happend it isn't regarded as religion.

I would define agnosticism as an absence of religious belief or the view that nothing is known of God and/or the metaphysical, and atheism as a disbelief in God. Most real atheists I've known are as fanatical as religious fundamentalists.

I hope the George Bush quote was taken out of context.

oh yeah, great idea that,

fox hunting, were the supposed pros's are

1> saving jobs
2> controlling the local fox population

of course it doesnt expain why

1> it takes 10+ hounds, 20 horses and riders to "chase" ONE fox
2> its treated as a "sport"
3> members are "blooded" rituially
4> only the "UPPER CLASS" and ppl with nothing better and too much money do it.
