Psycho Ricers
I've had my 2013 Carrera 4S for just 2 months now, and I've noticed something that I guess isn't too surprising... young men in their ricer civics and mitsubishis are routinely doing weird stuff around me.... driving like maniacs in and out of traffic, doing hard corners in from of me, etc. I don't recall noticing this when I drive my truck. It's as though the sight of a Porsche causes them to go stark raving mad. Some a-hole almost caused a multiple car pile up recklessly maneuvering around me in heavy traffic today as I was driving home this afternoon. Interested to hear how commonplace this is.

The even weirder thing is that when I got my miata, I constantly had people in mustangs and camaros wanting to race me and even had an old guy in a corvette trying really hard in heavy traffic to goad me into racing or something.

Par for the course
They beat a Porsche by just getting in front of you even if you were parked

Call it jealousy or tribute. Ignore it.
They know what would happen on a real track. [pinky extended] |

I noticed that in the SC all the time.
People lose their brains when they see an old red 911 in traffic.... One young woman in a Subaru of some type was going out of her way to get me to run.... Was kind of funny.

Not always jealousy, your car just gets their adrenaline flowing. I would bet many of these guys are just trying to "bond" with another car-guy and their 20-something lizard brains can't muster much beyond the nonsense you mention. A simple wave likely doesn't seem sufficient in their heads.

Yea, I basically ignore them. Usually, I'm trying not to laugh. I don't think they realize how silly they look. They are often a menace, though. And to make matters worse, it seems like the percentage of ricer cars on the road is steadily increasing, and they are getting more outlandish by the day.... lol

Out here in SoCal it’s more likely to be some Lexus or Infiniti or the ubiquitous Mustang drivers, and occasionally a Merc or BMW. For some reason they want to show me how ”superior” they think their car is. I never ever engage them.
Pickup drivers can be the same. The Evos, Subies, and Corvettes tend to be behaved and sane. Last edited by 450knotOffice; 11-08-2019 at 05:05 PM.. |

I haven’t seen that many ass hats. Just the occasional idiot pulling off a 4-5 lane change in traffic.

It never happens in the 944. Balance belt is set tight and makes a whine like a super charger. They know it's well set up.

Around here a Cayman is rare sight. Kids will normally try to get next to me and give a thumbs up. They probably think its some kind of 911 variant. I live in a very small town.

Drop a gear or two and show em' who's faster and who has the superior car. Bet em' to the next corner if you have to skid side ways getting to it first. Hell, I know you have better brakes. don't give us Pelicans a bad name and live up to the name of the good Dr.
Glad I got that off my chest |

Pretty typical for the Honda Civic "ricer" guys to go nuts around me here when I'm driving my SC on the highway at the speed limit. I just let them be stupid and go on. Now the one time I was in my Miata with the top down on the highway and got "coal rolled" by a diesel pickup truck that took the exit fork at the last second really pissed me off.

I remember riding around in my buddies capri rs, out looking for a race, and we get lined up next to a 944 turbo . We got the holeshot, and we were sure we had him, then " what the hell just happened ?' At about 70 or so, the well set up 951 just walked away by leaps and bounds . I was intrigued from that moment on . He really wanted to say that he smoked a porsche. We were probably 19.

I don't think it's necessarily jealousy.
This reminds me of the show "Mystery Science Theater 3000", in which a guy and his two robots are exiled to watch (and make fun of) cheesy movies. Fans write in all the time with suggestions of movies the MST3K crew should parody. The show writers comment, not every bad movie warrants MST3K consideration. For a movie to make it on the show, it can't just be bad, it has to be a certain type of bad- namely, the movie in question makes a serious attempt to be something it isn't, and whatever that attempt is, flops miserably. I admit, when I roll up (in my volvo station wagon) to guys on sport bikes with extended rear trailing arms, trucks with double stacks/ coal rollers/"cummin's" diesel stickers and such, I will sometimes troll them into a "mock" race just for if the conditions are right. Like MST3K, it can't just be a bad bike, car, truck. It has to be a vehicle and a driver acting in a way that parodies himself in some way (for example a ricer weaving it through traffic, flooring it, only to have body unsecured fiberglass body panels flailing about be cut at the next red light, and making NO progress in any fast and furious attempt). It can't just be a parody either, it has be an almost comedic parody. And it can't just be a loud exhaust, or someone blipping the throttle because the engine is so poorly tuned it will cut off if they don't do so. Around here, that could be a guy trying to get into work and that's the best car he can afford. It has to be a pretentious, unnecessary something. Like the TV show, the person really needs to be implying they are trying to be something they aren't. If blipping the mighty volvo throttle spurs them into hitting theirs, or worse yet, beat them (all in a safe under 25mph way...), it's all in good fun. When I'm in the 911, I don't race. The car is what it is, and I've got nothing to prove. Ironically, I rarely get challenges either. Most people are thumbs up/ complements. The red color of a previous 944 I drove was an exception. It was showy, and I think it perhaps inadvertently contributed to the "parody" situation that MST3K alludes to. Also, my fathers plate "por5che" didn't help either! When I got a Black 944 with non descript tags, all the catcalling/ racing/etc stopped. People just ignored it, or gave thumbs up. ![]() Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 11-09-2019 at 05:34 AM.. |

I don't know why my 911 provokes these ricers... maybe it's the red color?
