ATM user interface - am I an idiot?
We have a saying in my field: A user interface is like a joke - if you have to explain it, it's not very good.
I cannot figure out where to insert my card. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1573832480.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1573832506.jpg |
Insert it in the slots between the green lights.
|
Between the two horizontal lights, in a "top of the card" first.
|
Hopefully he isn't still standing there.

They even drew pictures

I keep wondering what the joke is. |
He's still there waiting for the gif to load...

Ok, so I guess I am an idiot (although I suspect prior art already established that). It was ~5:15am so maybe I just wasn't awake yet.
OTOH, it will either be more difficult to install a skimmer with this design, or easier because people will be expecting the old-style interface. |
...aaaaand I don't know how to insert a gif

Sorry to add to the fray (engineer who has to analyze loss of safety events, ensure that the contractor determines why they happened, and develops appropriate corrective actions), but I see card icons/drawings in 3 different spots. Which one do I choose!
I know that it I need to use the horizontal slot between the green lights (my primary ATM is the same), but this design did change the orientation of the card going into the slot (long ways vs. short end). First time use was confusing. |

I assume that's not one that sucks the card all of the way in. You just insert. I'd think for chip cards, you'd have to insert it pretty far which wouldn't leave much card sticking out. I'm guessing maybe it's a way to make the mechanism less deep, but I am probably way off base. |

The old way was done to provide motion to read the magnetic strip.
No need for motion anymore. |

Add your bank card to your phones wallet.
More contact less ATM’s are coming on line everyday. |

I assume for that to work with ATMs your card would have to support it. I don't believe all cards support NFC or RFID or whatever the tech is, do they. |

Think of touch less pay using your phone. ATM’s are now supporting using your phone in place of your physical card. |

I thought you were talking about some of the cards (not the majority) that support RFID. |
All of the new credit/debit cards have the capability to tap and pay, just like using Apple Pay with your phone.. Simply tap them on that pad and it works. Same as using your phone. Thats what the pad on the right is for. The new cards also do not have the typical stamped digits anymore either. They are printed on the card now.
