I'm at that magical age where these "hair-bands" were simply a bridge between the classic rock I grew up with, and the grunge period where it somewhat returned. Cannot argue the success of bands like MC, et al, but they never resonated enough with me to buy any of their music or see them live.

I'm a huge music geek--but this period, IMHO, was like the comparable malaise period in automobile production. To each his own, of course.

I would go as far to say that I certainly wouldn't try to take anything away from most of the guitarists, drummers and other musicians of this genre; I just didn't like the finished product.
FWIW, I feel the same way about bands like GNR.

The video above is hysterical, but I'd have been pissed if that's what I got once I paid for a ticket.

I will totally go! I saw Def Leppard last year and they were great. Lots of energy. So the two of them together could be a great show.

I feel the same way with the "Hair Metal" that dominated the scene in the early 80's to early 90's. I saw MC at Gazzari's years ago when they were just starting out, probably 81 or 82. My cousins and some friends were into all that stuff, Dio, VH, Scorpions, Dokken, etc. Went to the shows but just couldn't get excited about it. I was more into Joe Walsh, SRV, Bob Marley, smaller local bands and other eclectic jazz oriented stuff.

Not too many reunion tours I'm interested in these days. If somebody plays a small venue I'm interested, otherwise I avoid the stadium shows. The biggest show I have tickets to currently is Dwight Yoakum at the Wynn casino in Vegas in December.

Is that video of them real? I mean...…... I know er' body has aged a little, put on some lb's …….but dang......

I saw them back in '84 and then again when they did their "final tour" in 2015. They rocked the house. It was amazing.. Brought back so many memories...! Will definitely go again!

Except that 80s shredders could play their guitars better than anyone who came before of after them. I think 80s rock is more like today's modern 500+ horsepower wars, with cars that are too fast to actually be useable on the streets. Hopefully, the car world sees a correction to grunge because 500+ hp is just idiotic.

Huh? I think there were some reasonably good guitarists out there before the hair metal shredders came along. There was this guy out of Seattle named Hendrix who was pretty good. Another guy from Britain named Clapson, or Clapper, or something. He was pretty good too. Of course, he couldn't play fast, so they called him Slowhand. But he was still passable.

Shredders to me are like people who do gymnastics and think it is dancing. The equivalent of someone who can do 30 pushups, 30 jumping jacks, and 30 squat thrusts all in one minute. It ain't art, it's muscle memory.

I would disagree.

Top bands get there by the creation of new intellectual property; so what has been done before isn't done again by new bands because there isn't as much profit in it.

If you're creative, you want to push the boundaries into space not yet done.
