Wrestler with size 19 foot needs shoes...ideas?
My brother has become the wrestling coach of a 6'5" HS junior unable to find size 19 wrestling shoes. Anyone here have ideas as to how to help this kid out?

Well expand your search to include boxing shoes and weight lifting shoes. He can get an exception from the referees. But size 19 is huge. You are probably into the arena of having custom shoes made.

Does he really need the shoes? I mean, any sensible opponent is going to run screaming from the gym when he steps on the mat, match over.

Could he wear basketball shoes? Could a shoe repair shop remove the outsole from a basketball shoe and replace it with a leather or rubber sole (like a moccasin)?

I *think* that there are rules stating wrestlers need wrestling shoes. However, I can't imagine this issue crops up often.

If proper wrestling shoes are unavailable a waiver can be requested to allow other types.

Size 19 shoes on a kid? WOW!
I was and still am a size 13; an older gentleman I worked with on a Surveying Crew during the summer in my college years once made the remark, after looking at my boots: "You sure don't know much, but you've got a damn good understanding!"

I would think if all else fails, just a clean pair of sneakers. The big guys aren't moving there feet like the smaller guys anyways.
Disrespectful and gross to wear street shoes on a mat considering faces get squished into them. Best of luck to him. Great sport. |

If he is able to get an exception for weightlifting shoes - Zappos does carry a size 19.
