These look like springs used in mountain bike forks from about 20 years ago. They would come in different thicknesses just like you have. You would use two thick ones (one in each stanchion) for heavy, two thin for soft, and a thick and thin one for medium... something like that. I have not seen that type of rubber placed in them though. Sometimes they were just one spring in one stanchion and dampers in the other... Lots of different brands.

edit- I'm going to even bet the yellow thing is a fork tab that you'd put in the dropouts to protect the fork during shipping. Final answer! :)

This.

[QUOTE=Baz;10673834]I bought this bike used on eBay about 10 years ago - I wonder if the springs came with it?[QUOTE]

This^ I bet.

The rear shock throws me off, because it is air, and a lot of times that means air in the front, or an air/spring combo front fork.

The 2005 manual states the front shock is a Fox vanilla R 130mm fork.

Here are reviews of it on mtbr.com:

Looks like springs, with people who did change the spring rate.

I just have no idea how I obtained them.

They were probably in a box by the side of the road in a neighborhood or maybe stuck down in the cushions of some chair that was on the side of the road. :D

My guess is also almost certainly some sort of two wheeled vehicle. Two spring rates. One for each tube. One takes care of smaller bumps, the other the big teeth rattlers.

I'll run this by my buddy who worked at a bike shop for quite a few years. He should know for sure. Will report back.

Thanks for all the input --- and of course the humorous comments as well....lol....
