Is it Just Me or are Others Done with Excellent Mag?
I really dont care about the latest sales figures of the newest 4 door sedan plugin hybrid. I find myself only looking at the For Sale section to check the values of older style cars I'm interested in. Or the Tech support section, 80% of the mag I dont even look at the pictures.
I know E-cars are fast but really dont care ... same story for the Toucan, Ecan or whatever they are calling the next E-car

I have to admit that I do focus more on the articles about the older cars, and I've been surprised at how many good articles they come up with. October was pretty interesting, with the road test of the RSR, the prototype 959, and the 1966 912.
I enjoy Pano more, but same issue there. What I've done is adjusted my expectations. I used to read every page. Now I don't stress if I skip some articles. I do wish they covered racing more. I realize there are other, more timely ways of following racing news, but I rarely seek those out. I'm of the pre-internet generation, where you had to wait for Road & Track coverage that was a couple of months late, so reading about a previous race doesn't really bother me. I don't get as much out of my subscription dollars as I used to, but I feel I still get enough. Mark

one of their mainstay writers left the mag a couple years ago and started his own publication.

OK Boomer.
I crack me up! What I should do is start systematically re-reading all my saved Excellences. I know they would all be "new to me" at this point. |

I cancelled my subscription last year. It was difficult to do as I was an original subscriber from 1987. When it first started the first 5 issues were called Porsche Magazine; before Porsche made them change the name. Lately, it just wasn’t the same magazine any more. Maybe it’s me and not the magazine. I used to wait for the issue to arrive in the mail. I noticed last year I had 5-6 unopened issues so I knew it was time for me to go.

^ It's not just you...I feel the same way. I skim thru in 10 mins. Go to the for sale for Air Cooled cars and then move on.

I saw the writing on the wall a few years ago. I am no longer the target audience, and air cooled cars are no longer considered as cool as uber cars.

I feel the same way about the Pano. It’s essentially become a factory mouth organ. The latest all-electric issue is a crock. Pano began to go away for me with the elimination of the parts classifieds. (Conspiracy theory: is that because the factory wants to discourage their Use?)
Becoming a factory mouthpiece seems to be an inevitability. The same thing happened quite a few years ago with the BMWMOA magazine. All articles about the latest and greatest, abandonment of what was then the core membership. Catering to the poseurs who were buying (but seldom actually using) the machines. “Boy I look great in this $1500 riding suit!” Sound familiar? I mostly agree electric is the future (assuming the supporting infrastructure - something nobody seems to want to talk about - can be provided) but for now it’s “smoke and mirrors” for most people mainly because of the range.

Excellence has become comic book thin....almost a pamphlet of late. I enjoy the mag generally but it is slim pickins…..Pano has, usually, a few articles that interest.....wtf was that comic book (sorry to use that twice...but it works) attempt with cartoons? Don't they know Boomers can read and don't need pictures like the young whippersnappers

000 is a guilty pleasure, but pricy. Auto week just ceased print editions as well.

I sent a letter to the editor of Panorama about the latest issue. I'm completely NOT interested in hybrids, E-cars, Taycans, E-this, E-that.
I threw the whole issue into the trash. The new Taycan is nice, I saw one up close at PECLA two weeks ago, but so is a new Tesla. I loathe them and Musk.

All magazines and newspapers are on life support. All the good people are going or gone and all the advertisers aren't paying what they used to.
On the bright side so much porsche content on youtube and instagram and forums you never need to look at magazines. Shame about the loss of professional photography and writing. |

Wake up and smell the coffee, you air cooled guys are timing out. The only people that ask me about the '82 these days are white haired, creaky, wrinkled old guys like me. But it seems to me there's still enough "I found my old 1972 Porsche after 50 years, bought it, and restored it" stories in both Pano & Excellence. The hybrid/SUV stories are terrible, but can also be ignored.
