Anyone else getting Christmas cards yet?

Got my first Christmas card on Monday.

December 2.

Man - that's early. Don't remember getting any that early before.

I'm a traditionalist and still send cards out - mostly to family but also a handful of friends I have stayed in touch with over the years.

Probably around 20 cards.

I include one of those letters on holiday stationary too. Allows me to provide some editorial content. :)

The years are flying by!

I've already gotten several from the folks who really love me: my real estate agent, a couple contractors, my insurance agent.

Yup. Got one from our tax accountant.

Mine arrived yesterday, from a long time friend.

I usually get a couple or three.

Got another one today! From Chewy - the pet supplier. Had doggie paw prints on the envelope...lol....

We stopped sending Christmas/Holiday cards nearly 20 years ago. We still get a few from people we don't even socialize with. Is it us or is this tradition starting to fade away, along with family china, leaded glass/crystal decanters, and photo albums?

I was brought up as a baby boomer and this has always been tradition.

I don't do cards for any other occasion of the year so for me it's no big deal to send them out to 20 or so parties.

I also enjoy the creativity aspect.

Card choice......stamp choice......return address label choice. Then there's the personal touch of what you write....and how you write it.

So many options.

And next year you can change things up....leave what you like....maybe add new stuff.

I sent Gary Larson "Far Side" cards out one year - that was fun! Peanuts is always good. Then there's the ones by various artists with a little bio on the back.

And as I said - I've been composing a letter for mine - one page single sided with holiday theme stationary. Brief rundown on what is happening in my corner of the world. Include me, my work, my Mom, and my pets. Once in a while a little current event stuff - especially when we get a hurricane (or canes).

I will probably get started on mine this weekend. :p

Yep. I've got a big handful of them.
Financial advisor, online merchants, charities, politicians....

Everybody loves me..

We got one from my wife's boss (at the yearly Christmas party on Tuesday), but no others from friends, or family yet. We gave up sending cards a few years ago, but my parents send out a 2 page letter highlighting everything that we all did over the year.

I don't count cards from business aquantences, vendors, agents as cards. That is a mass mailing.

I don't get many cards anymore - it it easier to pick up the phone and talk. I try not to do social media (FB or Instagram) either.

I do appreciate cards with photos attached - especially with those I know that I don't see very often. I personally, don't send cards. I remember my mom going thru her Christmas list and making edits either updating address information or adding/subtracting names. She spent several hours signing cards. My brother and I would lick the envelops and put stamps on them. That was a long time ago.

Wow! That brings back memories. Baz, thanks for posting this.

My pleasure, Jim. Thanks for your take on things - much appreciated. SmileWavy

I send family photos out sometimes in my mailing. Here's a photo for example I sent out back in '06........both girls are still with me and knock on wood still running around the place!

I have started to get them. I display the cards on the counter. It makes me feel like I am somebody.
I get them from my dog's Vet, my dentist, Real Estate people, HVAC, Pest Control, tons of
charities and so on. I put them up so as to appear to be important.
Then.... I do get real Heart Felt Cards from friends I have known for decades.
I enjoy sending cards to the few friends and family I have.

This year I sent some trick cards that have the Christmas music start when you open the card. If you push the button to stop the music,
It gets louder. If your can't stand the three hours of obnoxious music and tear the card open.... glitter comes flying out.
I guess I am a prankster at heart. I will have to wait and see if the cards work.

I got one from my accountant. It's not like we are friends, duh.

That reminds me I haven't opened it yet and it was weeks ago.

Got my cards today. Ended up getting some sent through Amazon - next day free shipping. They are really nice cards with animals on them. :)

Will be composing my letter tonight and getting these all in tomorrow's mail. That's 14 days before Christmas. Not bad.

I was going through some of the cards I received last year and you know what mistake a lot of people make? They don't put the year on their card anywhere. Bad enough when you send a traditional card but when you send a photo card my goodness if there was ever an opportunity to have "2018" on it somewhere - that is certainly it.

In fact I'm of the opinion that the people who make these cards should have the year on them as a default and only be special request by the customer it is removed.

'Tis the season! :D

My parents were big into Christmas cards. They sent and received 100 or more.

One family always mailed the epitome Christmas card. Their daughter was featured in several magazines as a model for years, but was about to graduate from medical school and start practice. Their lawyer son just made partner at a big law firm in town. Their new vacation home in Hawaii was in architectural digest, and on and on.

Just finished my letter. Another masterpiece! :D
