Fred - Look into a commercial carpet tile with a low nap. Get one that's multicolored with most of the color the same as the soil outside. Lay it on a quarter or half turn and it will disguise a lot of the wear and traffic. Get some backstock and you can replace anything that gets too stained. Some of the lines don't use glue.

I like carpet. then again, I was a commercial flooring guy in a previous life.

Our current house had tile in the kitchen, dining, laundry. Had an issue with a washer that flooded the house and the cleaning crew broke some tile. We used the insurance money to replace it with laminate. I hate tile. It is hard, cold and noisy. We have sheet vinyl in the bathrooms and the entry door in the basement from the garage, though I keep some carpet tile on that to wipe your feet on. The rest of the basement is Berber. The upstairs is all plush carpet other than the front door entry which has tile and the kitchen/dining/laundry that is laminate. My wife has laminate in her office.

Mom and dad have carpet tile in the basement and we played ping pong on that for decades and it does not wear. Mom gets tired of the color before it shows wear.

For a rental I don't know that I would do carpet other than something from Menards where you can replace it cheap and there are no pets allowed. You don't get pet pee out of carpet or the pad or the subfloor.

renters can easily damage hardwood floors (and when I had rentals, of renters completely destroyed the floors)

no carpet in my home

I always carpet and only use wool carpet.

Cheap synthetic carpet is really bad for the environment. It doesn't last and wear well, then takes up a lot of space in a landfill. And the synthetic doesn't readily break down once disposed of.

We had to remove green carpet from the living room, and kitchen (?!). There was beautiful native hardwood floors underneath that now need resealed from 20 years of use. The only room in the house that has carpet is the master bath, and it is laid over lino, so no soaking into subfloor under it.

It sure is nice on a cold night to have a warm floor, and not slip coming out the shower also.

As long as it matches the drapes, I'm fine with it. But clean shaven is good too.

Damm, HardDrive beat me to it as I was just ready to post almost exactly the same thing. Surprised it took this long, we must be getting mellow.

No carpet in house, but a few area rugs.

Am I only the only one with dyslexia that sees something different in the title?

Bond: Weren't you a blonde when I came in?

Tiffany: Could be.

Bond: I tend to notice little things like that, whether a girl is a blonde or a brunette.

Tiffany: And which do you prefer?

Bond: Oh, providing the collars and cuffs match...
