Another Alex Honnold film coming. Looks good. :)

Vertigo just watching...heart palpitates while imagining myself stuck 500 feet up the side of a rock....

Good luck to Alex.

Good luck to Alex.

He has a unique combo of incredible skills and zero fears....which I have neither of!

Free solo was great, the guy is clearly talented... But (and I feel bad thinking that), it's just a matter of time till we read about him in an obituary. Might not even be his fault... Can't keep beating the odds.

Good luck. The whole idea of climbing a rock that high gives me the willies.
It's hard to understand what motivates people to do (or not do) extraordinary things. How many people are going to care that he beat the 2 hour mark? He must be internally motivated.

There's free solo climbing with no ropes, which Alex is the king of. Then there's free climbing, which uses ropes for protection but not to help for climbing. Then there's aid climbing in which you use the ropes to help pull yourself up the cliff. This speed record is an aid climb, so it's cool, but not as awesome as other things climbers do. But I suppose any other kind of speed record would become too dangerous at some point. Free climbing and solo climbing needs to be done methodically, not quickly.

The film looks like it might be very well done...thankfully he survived it.
(free, solo, or aid)

Yup. Friend of mine in CO back in the last century was a sponsored climber. Got flown all over to climb things and was always bringing in toys to the metallurgy lab for some cut-rate analysis. Slipped and fell off of "Broadway" on Longs Peak, the supposed rest point on the climb, with his fiancee watching.

Beautiful sport until it becomes brutal...

Pretty much the Dream Team when Alex and Tommy climb a route. Both have resumes that are otherworldly and together, fugitaboutit.
