Free Solo
I’m not sure I’ll even be able to watch this movie. The guy is NUTZ. Nat. Geo. Had an article about him recently. I fell out of a tree as a kid and slid off a roof once. Just thinking about it gives me palpitations.

I did a lot of tree climbing and have been on a few roofs, but I never fell out of anything. I'd love to do rock climbing, but at some point, my sense of self preservation would kick in.

I watched it last week, the last 20 minutes of it where he climbs without any harness made my feet sweating and I couldn't seat no more.
There were parts that I said these guy is screwed, but he pulled himself up. |

Waaaaaay back when I was young, dumb, and invincible I used to climb the cliffs around Palos Verdes. Not sure why, maybe I was an adrenaline junkie? Now when I look at those cliffs it gives me the willies thinking about how dangerous it was.

Sorry, but I think people that free climb are mentally ill.

Mentally ill, eh?
There certainly are many, many examples of individuals aspiring to surpass human achievement at great personal risk. He's not mentally ill. He himself says he is simply in pursuit of perfection. NUTZ, yes. But not ill. |

Seriously, go watch it.
Don't miss it. It won't be the same on your cell phone.

If the show is on Nat geo channel, they'll spend most of the show time telling us about native American persecution and civil rights and how we should all feel guilty for it.
Pretty sure that's the only message Nat Geo knows or cares to present. |

I like adventure but free climb just doesn't ring my bell. Neither does climbing Mt Everest. I've kayaked white water, did winter mountaineering, and motorcycled around the country solo but that's about it. Of course being responsible for two children also kept me in check.

I watched it last night. Amazing vertigo producing footage. The guy definitely has a personality disorder, in addition serious OCD, and the MRI findings that he has an inactive region of his brain that produces fear and emotion.
I came to dislike him a little, and felt sorry for his girlfriend. She is adorable and a heartbreak waiting for a place to happen. Nevertheless, worth watching.

I thought his girlfriend is a fame-digger.
She gave him her number at a book signing when she didn't know anything about him. And now, she interferes with the very thing that made her sex him up in the first place. The relationship was doomed from the start, sadly for Alex.

It’s no different than 90% of all other left biased US media reporting. Same, same!

Just finished watching it...Comcast is showing it on their 'on demand' for free.
Parts of it I could hardly watch...even though I knew the outcome. Crazy man. Well worth watching.

I haven't seen this yet or read anything about the guy. Was it mentioned in the show how he manages to pay his bills while spending so much time climbing rock faces? A day job? Trust fund baby? Lottery winner?

I watched it. Woohoo!
The thing that kept going thru my mind while watching the guy climb was how much confidence he had in where and how he planted his feet. It was like they had glue on 'em. At least once he was just standing there with his face pressed against a nearly vertical wall somehow with his hands free. Imbeleivable. Last edited by Crowbob; 03-10-2019 at 07:22 PM.. |
