Old Man Emu shocks ?

Just pulled these off a disco today. I don't work on a whole bunch of these. I have never heard of the brand. Says built tough in Australia . http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1576697941.jpg

Had an OME system on an old Cherokee. At the time they were top of the line.

asphaltgambler 12-18-2019 11:43 AM

Never but maybe the Emu and old men have special meaning in Australia........

Those are popular on FJ40 and FJ60's Landcruisers;) They make springs too.

dobryan 12-18-2019 11:53 AM

OMEs are also popular with the VW Vanagon $yncro off road crowd.

Used an Old man Emu steering stabilizer on my FJ62.

Had OME suspension but on my 88 4runner. Had a problem with a strut making noise soon after install, and they sent a new one quickly and never had another problem.

This was 20ish years ago, so take it was a grain of salt

They have been popular on Cherokees for a long time, a long time ago. They sold kits that weren't really a lift kit but had much improved articulation. Good stuff back n the day when I was into that stuff, 15-20 years ago. Had I been able to get the Cherokee I was looking at, that would have been the first upgrade.

I had them on my syncro tristar but they were stiffer than a teenage boy in a... well, you get the idea. I took them out and replaced them with stock shocks. Much better now.

Big with the lancruiser, etc crowd. Not known to be particularly high quality.

VINMAN 12-18-2019 12:57 PM

Very popular with Jeep guys few years back. Had an OME lift and suspension in my Grand Cherokee. Good stuff

What??? Where do you come up with that? Old Man Emu is pretty much the standard against which all others are measured. They have an outstanding reputation for quality in serious off-roading circles.

Agree 100%, they are a high quality designed and built tough for washer board outback roads in Australia and well suited to 3rd world rural English roads too :D

I have them on my daily 1994 Toyota 4Runner, they are the bee knees and I'd buy them again in a heart beat, that's if they ever wear out in my lifetime

I have Old Man Emu's on my 80 series Land Cruiser. 5 years and going strong. It's great and pretty darn affordable.

Jeff Higgins 12-18-2019 02:45 PM

I've had their 3" lift kit on my '93 Land Cruiser for a couple of years now. Springs, shocks, stabilizer, and offset front control arm bushings. I can't say enough about the quality of the components, their ease of installation, and their performance on the trail. I did a lot of research before selecting their kit, finding nothing but good reviews and enthusiastic recommendations. I would recommend their stuff to anyone.

they are huge in the Toyota world.
they make a decent kit for not a lot of money.

Agreed, pretty much top of the pile.

Crowbob 12-18-2019 04:27 PM

This winter I’m upgrading the entire suspension on my Samurai with OME.
