New Years Eve tradition

On New Years Eve we hold a dinner and viewing party at the ice cream shop for a few locals and friends. The Rose Parade floats come up in the evening to stage for the big New Years Parade so we get to see many of them all completed, with no crowds. It became a tradition for us when we noticed this elderly couple standing out in the cold waiting for the floats by themselves. We opened the doors so they could warm up and gave them some snacks and drinks while we waited for the floats. After that night, we told them we’d open on New Years Eve every year so they could enjoy a great start to the new year. It has been five years since we started this, and this is the first one that they’ve missed. Definitely a bit worried, but we’re still keeping the tradition alive. Hopefully we’ll see them next year!

What are your New Years Eve traditions?
