Visited the Capitol

Spent a couple days in DC visiting fam and took my son to see the Capitol. Really impressive, especially the dome and the fresco frieze that borders the lower part of it. I had forgotten how beautiful and awe inspiring it was, since I last saw it when I was 9 or 10.

Did you get those articles from Nancy's desk and deliver them to the Senate? Or were you too scared just like the rest?

stevej37 12-30-2019 02:28 PM

So many things to see in that part of our country.
Did you have the time to see the Smithsonion?

An awesome area to visit. I need to make the trip one more time.

Hey. We're going next week. Wife and grown kids never been.
Any places, things must see out of the normal stuff?
Was thinking of old town Alexandria one part of the day.

We spent a week in DC when I was about 12-13. I only remember bits and pieces, it was a blur trying to see so many museums and monuments in such a short period of time. I lived in NoVA for the last couple of years of HS and never went up to DC for anything. I'd love to go back and spend a couple of weeks seeing things again.

Move this to PARF where it belongs with the stupid picture posted.

You can spend a week easy. A day in DC is not enough.

And even a week would be really humping to see lots of stuff.

I'm going in the spring. Only a three-day stay. Any recommends on a not outrageously expensive hotel?

911boost 12-30-2019 02:58 PM

I grew up in NOVA, there are a ton of great capital pictures that could have been posted and I wonder he picked that one, hmmmmm

Crowbob 12-30-2019 03:05 PM

He probably took the photo to hide in his sock drawer. He posted it because that's what he does.

PARF it up, commies

madcorgi 12-30-2019 03:14 PM

OK, I took out the picture of the Speaker's office. I took the pic because it was the only member's office we got to see, it's right off the rotunda, and I thought it was neat. but I forgot how easily triggered some are, even here on OT. Hug your service animals and try to think brave thoughts, ladies.

Good luck! SmileWavy

The photo in question was definitely political commentary. He'll deny it.* He could have posted a hundred pics of Statuary Hall, for example.

*Ooops. He already has.

Crowbob 12-30-2019 03:16 PM

Thanks, steve.

You can spend a day in each of Smithsonian buildings...SO much to see in DC. The metro system rules for getting around....or used to.

I visit the DOE building every few months - rarely do I pass up a trip through the Smithsonian "castle" that's just across Independence Ave. That's such a cool museum in "the old way". A sort-of-arranged assortment of old stuff behind glass. No interpretive mumbo-jumbo. The gardens on the south side, facing Forrestal, are beautiful and there are two padded benches just perfect for a lunchtime half-smoke.

Speaking of my dear headquarters, how in a city of such pleasant architecture did that thing (and many others from the 1950-1970s) get built? It's as painful to work in (bad HVAC for starters) as it is to look at. I know Brutalism was/is a thing, but so is Ebola. Uck...
