Paging Navy Vets
Ever get shore leave in Angels City? Ever play a little pool in this bar? (six minutes)

Angeles City is way north of where the Navy used to pull in...near the old Clark AFB. The Navy was all about Subic and Olongapo.
I spent a lot of time in the Philippines in the '80's and have great respect for the people. However, there is a point in time where tragic pushes out the fun factor.

For what it's worth, pool is a national sport there. Many Pinoy (not an insult) top world pros. The rotation pool GOAT is Efren "the magician" Reyes of Angels City.
This "Z" bank won one of his many world tournaments for him. Go ahead...try it at home. The imagine doing it with a lot of money & a championship at stake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6G_RnPh1yw

What happens in Olongapo, stays in Olongapo...unless it requires medical attention.

I have recounted this story before. 1985.
So, I am on Shore Duty as the Duty LT Without a Clue (DLWC) my forth time though the PI. The key to Shore Duty is to take the early shift. Timing is everything. Please remember, I am a huge fan of the people of the Philippines... So, it is still early and the two Petty Officers with me, and they are as pissed off as I am to have drawn the duty, walk into a bar on the main strip to sit for few minutes...4 o'clock in the afternoon. There is a bit of an argument brewing between the owner of the bar and a few patrons. It seems this place features woman's boxing between women who have no interest in boxing nor should they. But they get into the ring, more or less. Apparently, the patrons had issue with the way the last bout was officiated. San Miguel beer will do that to a person. It was 9 o'clock somewhere. One of the Petty Officers is from my Det and knows I box since we belong to the same gym in San Diego. To mollify the crowd, everyone decides that the PO will be the in ring judge and I will be the official scorer for the next few fights, all between just the cutest young women in this particular place with pillows for gloves. What a hoot: 10 Point Must System, fairly applied. Our Shore Duty shift ended at 1800, just after the last bout. What a coincidence.

One other thing: The live music in Olangapo was simply incredible.
The acts were all Filipino and superbly performed...from Rock, Hair Bands to Country and all points in between. "Close your eyes and you'll be there, it's everything they say..." Had to see it to believe it.

Best Rush cover band on the planet played at Woodstock. My mates and I hung out at a little off strip bar called Sunshine Place. Quiet and the girls left us alone.
