We we were looking for our house I told my wife if we ended up with a place with enough land I would want a detached garage. We ended up with a fairly small back yard, but I have an oversize three car garage with a work bay area for my work bench, and a bathroom in the garage. Now I don't have to go outside to go play with my cars.

I still wish we had the space for a detached garage so I could park some more cars out there and have room for a full lift. I do have a scissor lift, and that is just fine for most any project I want to tackle.

It will be cool to see your final garage project.

That's a really peculiar way to frame a structure. I hope these guys aren't on a cost+ contract.

Fixed price. It's my first garage, but not my first rodeo.

The guys framed it that way today because they had to work in 25 mph winds. These two guys built an amazing deck on my house. The lead has his own way of doing things, is opinionated (like you), is meticulous, and a real craftsman. Got no worries about their work.

nothing wrong with "stick framing", especially with only two guys and stepped footings. Can plumb and line as you go.

Those are some high stick boxes.
Hope there is some good Simpson ties, triangulation, and X stamp wolmanized plywood walls (not OSB) planned.

That is going to be a palace when done. Enough room for a loft and more. Totally jelly here.

Walls will be OSB, roof sheathing will be plywood. OSB is better in shear and tends to be more uniform, but I don't like it for roof sheathing because in that application it molds easily and becomes mush in our climate. When I had my company, we demolished a lot of rotten/moldy OSB.

Goal was to have a roofline that matches the second story of the house and high ceiling for a lift.

Progress as of last night. It survived the winds and was still here at the dawn of the new decade.

Is Seattle the land of giants? Those windows are way the hell up there!

They are for light only, high on the south side so the trees don't block them as much. Also rather not have folks to be able to see in from outside.

I would have went with "yep.. all giants" But I figured that's what you were doing. Should be a nice "fortress of solitude". Looks like 2x6 walls.

Had a little fun today playing around with where the lift or lifts should go. Sativa looks pretty small in there, and looks like there will be room for a few more friends.

Going to be one hell of a garage, nice spot for it too. I’ve always wanted to build a garage ground up the way I want it, but I’ve yet to have the chance. Love the height.

how about Lahars? are you in a zone that might get visited by parts of Mt. Rainier?
