I was okay with the Taycan but...
If I wasn't sad enough to see the new Taycan on the latest edition of Excellence I said this is okay, Porsche is just staying current with the latest technology. It likely needs to be done. Well then I flip through and see an ad for a fancy tool bag. What the heck? Then I go to the dealership and I see one on the shelf today for approx. $450. People buying that? IMO, what a pompous, useless sack. I thought they went a bit cheap on the tool bag that came with my car (if it did) but this thing looks like something my mother in law would buy in Paris to keep up with the Jones. It So says "Form over function". I'd say maybe it goes with the non 911, Box/Cayman cars but do the other owner's even use the tool sets. Is the mechanic saying "What a lovely tool bag" or "what a tool bag". I guess I am stereotyping but it just says fru, fru to me.
Say I am crazy but I am going 1st or 2nd generation Miata after the lure of this one wears off. Please don't tell me they have a luggage collection too? I won't be able to take it. All in jest but some truth to the above rant. I guess they have always had this stuff, and I just never noticed. ****ty day. :) |
Absolutely, there is "Porsche Design" luggage, and I think it may fit certain areas of the various cars.
https://shop4.porsche.com/usa/baggage/ I think you could also get custom luggage for the McLaren F1. Porsche makes some insanely priced stuff. How about the "sound bar" that's built into a 911 muffler? https://shop4.porsche.com/usa/masterpieces/wap0501110g/porsche-911-soundbar.pdds https://shop4.porsche.com/filestore/...1-Soundbar.jpg Only $3500 (unless you want the "black edition" which is $4250 |
And Porsche sells the hookah-bong gizmo for mucho dinero...

At Porsche Parade, the factory has a display with some of the goodies they have for sale. The have a tool bag for all the cars now, even 914s and 924s. Same silly price. However if one looks for a original tool bag for a SC or Carrera it is about the same price. That is why I have never bought one. My 911 did not come with the tool bag. I would love to have one, but I am not going to spend 400 bucks for used one.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1577991992.JPG They have some real "must haves" in the Porsche Design area. Like this dog collar for $55 and the matching leash for $65. I decided to live without it. |
The original and complete tool kit in my old car went off to Istanbul. Probably worth quite a bit these days. I kept my carry tools...Craftsman combo wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, pliers, etc. All in a handy little "gatemouth" brand canvas tool roll. It has a nifty row of clips to keep both 1/4" and 3/8" sockets in place.
Long ago, I discovered that three LL Bean small canvas duffle bags fit perfectly side by side in the upper part of the early 911 trunk. Your point well made though...on how the Porsche philosophy, image, and marketing has changed. It was always around, but to a much lesser degree than today. |

My donor car, an '82 SC had been crashed on the way home from a major makeover, had one but it was covered in battery acid from the crash. And I didn't want to clean it so I threw it out. Hell, if I'd known you wanted one you could have had mine for $399 instead of the going price of $400 ;) :D |
Just look in the for sale section at the prices asked for original tool kits. Ones in good shape are $$$$. Same as EBAY. I quit looking long ago as I am just not a concours guy and my home made tool kit is just fine.
|
Yeah, mine's a mixture. I keep that big hex key socket that takes the cover off so the fuel pump can be accessed with it, plus a bunch of good bad and ugly fan belts.
Seriously, sorry I biffed it. I didn't know it was of any value and I'd have put it in the post for you. |
I put all my tools across the various storage boxes of my Cayman as to distribute the weight evenly and not upset the corner balance. It is the ONLY right way

What does the Taycan tool bag look like?
I think this one looks OK but I'm not sure about the Tartan. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1578064250.jpg |
I would guess the Tycan tool kit is a extension cord, and and a tire pump.

I picture the Taycan toolbag to be:
-American Express Card (or whatever credit card you have with a suitable credit limit. -Cell phone. |
Does the Singer include a reimagined tool kit bag with matching designer leather ?
