Just what the world needs...another SUV

On a somewhat related note, I attended a discussion forum last year that included FCA chairman, John Elkmann. I asked him if customers were driving the demand for these oversized, high-profit vehicles, or if manufacturers were pushing them on the public thru their marketing efforts. He just smirked and said, "Once you're up, you don't wanna go back down". I replied that once everybody's up, that advantage is gone. He just smiled and took another question...

I sometimes think that in search of higher profits, manufacturers have created this demand for SUVs, and now they're all jumping on the bandwagon to fill the 'need'. Even Bentley's building one now. All the advertising I see these days is for big, full-size pickups and SUVs...hardly ever see ads for cars anymore.
