Garage with house plans wanted...

We've sold our house in Charleston, but i don't know if we will stay there or move closer to my work in Beaufort/Bluffton, which is south of Charleston by an hour or so. in fact, i'm not sure Ms Rocket will be going with me...

Having lived in gated neighborhoods, POA neighborhoods, etc. I'm thinking maybe a 1-3 acre piece of land that i can build a 3-4 garage with a 1 or 1-1/2 story house above (1500 - 2000 HSF). I'd like the front to look similar to a house, but obviously, that's a challenge. The concrete driveway for front entry 3 car garage would look like a runway, so maybe a side entry is better? Or a combination.

i just now joined the Garage Journal to see what they have and get ideas, but anyone have a source for plans and ideas?

Thanks!

EDIT. Maybe something similar to this.

something like this looks less garage, plus is at least a little interesting.

functionally I like the side covered area

I like that a lot. It would be easy to put a second roof line similar to the one on the right on the left.

This is much more like what I actually built. I built the center first, and added the shed roof additions one at a time. The upper part has a cathedral ceiling and post and beam trusses. Makes a nice space with the gable end windows. I also built a small porch out into one of the shed addition roofs. It is styled like a big red Barn, and is a real sleeper from the street. There is no porch sticking out the front, and you can't see the porch from the street side.

The main part is stick built, but the side additions are pole barn construction. I originally wanted to do one like the first one pictured, but I eventually settled on a design that could be built by one person with an occasional helper.

I like the first one, but it seems to urban for what or where I want.

The second one is a little too much as a ďhomeĒ. Maybe without the shed roofs.

Iím trying to find more of a man garage / space with living quarters above. A nice foyer downstairs with stairs and elevator would be great.

the photo you show in the 1st post is not called a garage or a shop... that's called a carriage house!!!

you really need to find a lot, analyze what work best on it for your needs after consulting both an civil engineer and architect. and oh ya, how much you have to spend.

coming from a tract home HOA community is not a good model to base your mountain home on. I bought another's home in the hills on three acres laid out a little like I would have done it. you have a clean slate to start, get smart people involved to evolve your place. after you some land. until then it just photos of carriages houses of the rich and famous...

Thanks again guys. Iíve been playing with the garage floor plan and itís gotten wider, deeper, a bedroom with a full bath and a closet. While I like it, the second floor living space needs a lot of work.

Modified plan.

Original plan.

I have researched this quite a bit for a vacation home. Try searching carriage house plans.
