Aussie Firefighters Truck Engulfed in Flame

When you see the flames at the start, they appear to be behind them and to the side. But the wind is howling and suddenly they're in the fireball. These are guys are heroes. Saving many lives. Things are real bad there at the moment.

It's been dreadful these past weeks... Never ending fires.
The smell of smoke is thick in the air at my place.

My friend posted this on Faceplant.

I’ve been reading about it online. There was a picture of thick white smoke from eastern Australia reaching New Zealand.

Is the fire country wide or localized?

Stay safe guys!

Stay Safe Australian Friends. Let’s pray the firefighters can get an upper hand on this beast.

It's been country wide. As one area is brought under control there's an outbreak somewhere else.
Our biggest problem is available "fuel". If you don't control & deal with the fuel this is what happens.

It's certainly a serious situation but Australia has been dealing with bush fires for many decades.
The Aborigines used to light them on purpose to manage the flora & move game to a different area.

^ Indeed. In fact there are many flora species here that require fire to break open the seed pods.

There have also been many reports of native animals walking up to humans for help.

I can't even imagine that. What kind of special hardening does that truck have?

^None. Apparently not long after that, the truck burst into flames and another crew had to rescue them!

The heat must be phenomenal. 40 degrees (celsius) plus, ambient temperature, then the heat of the fire. Ordinary healthy trees, meaning full of water and sap, are just exploding in the heat.

Sadly, my grandad's family have a big sheep station (sheep farm) in Bombala, nsw that would be wiped out by now.

It's finally started to rain here in S.A. Much needed to extinguish some local fires.

It all comes dwn to -no one wants to do anything anymore , let someone else do it.
All homes in bushfire areas, have to have a self contained sprinkler system. The problem is, its been 40C+ and the water is evaporating as soon as it touches the ground. There was a weather station that was burnt, and as the fire swept over, it recorded air temps of 458C. There is very little you can do when trees like eucalypts that are full of combustible eucalyptus oil, just spontaneously combust. Some of the fires were belting through the scrub at 40kmh.
Tires on vehicles have exploded because of the heat, leaving the occupants trapped to burn to death.
When seasoned 'fireys' are saying "it's time to get the fcuk out" you know it's time to, get the fcuk out.

Is the US sending anything more than thoughts and prayers?
