Older Suburban

Guys, whats the opinion about buying a Suburban 2010 to 2013, with 100K to 150K miles? Anything specific about the vehicle that I should be wary of? Problem area's?

Are you looking at a 1500 or 2500? Based from my 2011 2500hd truck with 124k miles ( I think they share the same chassis) no major problems with driveline so far, the 6.0L burns a lot of fuel though.

Replaced one starter solenoid and would say the alternator needs to be rebuilt soon.

I've been told the active fuel management (AFM) can be an issue causing lifter failure. That's if that model has it.
I'd still get one, I have an 06 Tahoe that's been pretty dependable.

Afm will eventually (usually around 60k) cause oil burn.

Mostly nit picky stuff, if PO's kids slammed doors expect to replace a window regulator or two, cheap and easy fix, interior bits start to show age, window switches may get twitchy, stuff like that.

Mechanically, in terms of maintenance / **** that broke, cheapest vehicle I've ever owned.

Have an 01' an 05' and a 16' currently in my stable.

Great vehicles.

I had a 91 suburban

Loved it. Seriously. Except that is was rear ended and I got hurt. The oldies didn't have any safety stuff. You year should be fine.

Bonus? You can sleep in them easy. Sort of a cheapo camp rig.

The 1500 has weak brakes. If you live in a hilly area and have a dim bulbed wife expect brake every 10K miles. Ask me how I know.

The 2500 has beefier pads and rotors. The 350 lasts around 150K, the 6.0 is a thirsty but robust motor.

Afm is 07-current. IIRC 14 or 15 had major change to engine.

I purchased a Suburban new in March 2001. The "Burban" is still with us at 154k miles. No major issues thru the years. 5.3 ltr (327 block), 4WD, leather interior, etc. Replaced the brake lines 3K ago, rusted thru. Replaced A/C compressor, new leather on drivers seat, new carpet, window regulators, minor switches, otherwise no major issues. Rust bubbles now appearing on L&R rear quarter panels (ugh). I've known this truck from day one, would drive it literally anywhere with no real concerns of getting back in one piece. Hope this helps.
