When my Dad was in Vietnam in late 1964/1965 we lived in Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

Our family car, this is fuzzy to me and my Dad is no longer with us, was a 3.4 Mark 2 Sedan. I am not sure of the year.

We moved back to California on his return. Here is a picture of me and Major Joko (sp) in Arizona shortly after they both returned:

We got a 3.8 Jaguar S-Type used a year or so later. Jag family car, Abarth fun car. Amazing. BTW, we used the trailer hitch across country towing. My Dad was a bit eccentric when it came to cars.

The 3.8S is the hot ticket in these sedans.

Great car im glad you saved it! Im sure you will have no problem finding a buyer. Like the rest of these guys I want it but not enough to come get it and pay money for it and fix it.

Oddly enough I saw one of them this morning heading to work, crazy.

Does the motor turn freely?

I tried to turn it over with a wrench that did not fit exactly as I can't get a socket on the nut without removing the radiator. I ended up loosing the bolt on the front of the crank, and when I went the other way the wrench kept slipping off. I was too lazy to jack it up and didn't feel like laying in the snow anymore, so I gave up. Maybe when it warms up I will try again. But for now I am going to say it is locked up. I guess I could pull the plugs and squirt some Marvels mystery oil in each cyl. and see if that helps. The dipstick shows the correct amount of oil, with no water in it, so that is a good sign.

That crank nut is a pain to access. Another method: Remove the plugs, stick it in gear then give the car a push. If the motor is not locked up the crank should rotate. If it’s just you on your own put a plastic straw in down the plug hole to watch it move.

I fell in love with these cars when I was a little kid and I saw the movie "St Ives" with Bronson.

If I were to keep it I would most likely leave it stock, but if I were to do an engine swap I think I would go with a Mercedes OM606a with a auto transmission. You can crank up the HP on a 606 to over 600hp and still get 30mpg.

Part of the character of the Jag MK2 is the XK engine growl and the howl at high revs. The engine can easily be tuned to reach 300 BHP reliably. With that power hanging out the tail slightly and holding it out round the corners is what this car is all about. It will also cruise at 100 mph in comfort in standard form..It doesn't need 600 BHP, it needs twisty roads in the hands of an accomplished driver.

Cleaned it up today with the warmer weather we had, and it is quite rust free. Got some photos and listed it on Craig's list, and FaceBook market place, will have to see if it sells.

They are certainly classy cars.

A 911 buddy of mine had a fleet of MK2 Jags as his wedding cars. Looked great.

Not a wedding pic but looks good all the same,

A popular conversion, works well. Typically gets you power steering, air con and auto trans as well. Not to mention reliable electrics. Some mod cons in that georgous shape.

Some years ago I saw a red MkII restored and set up for track or tarmac rally. I dont know if it got used that way, but it looked fabulous.

That OP car..well here is an idea...
