Interesting Porsche Accessory Find
 

My wife’s uncle bought a 911 from Vasek Polak in Manhattan Beach in 1971. Unfortunately he passed away in 1981. His wife, my wife’s aunt was conned by some #$&$#@ mechanic who convinced her to sell him the car at some ridiculously low price.

I’ve always wondered if any Porsche memorabilia/“stuff” was left from the ‘71 911.

His widow passed away last month, while straightening out her estate I finally got the answer to my question. I found a Vasek Polak Pocket knife in pretty good condition, not the original Owner’s Manual I was hoping for but still pretty cool nonetheless.

My dad had a '72E when I was a kid. So stupid, he sold it for nothing. But the car came with two Porsche+Audi jackets. One for my mom and one for my dad. I bet I could find them if I looked.

Now that is cool!

I remember those knives! Not a VP one, but the bare knife. We had a bunch of those in the early 70s.

My dad saw all cars as an appliance. We never had cool cars around. Unless you think a 4 door 1966 Delta 88 with a single barrel 454 engine is cool. Or a VW 411.

That is cool old give away from a major dealer.

My father passed away in 1968 when I was only 14. he was a German car nut and after we went through several VW's - one day a few years before his passing, he brought home a '63 356 1600 Super.

Of course my Mom sold the car shortly after his death. Luckily (along with some photos and memories) we have this from the car:

I think you're looking at 2 separate items here. The 3 bladed tool was one item, the snap pouch another. Such snap pouches were given by many dealerships back in the day. I have one from a now defunct mopar dealer. Before keys became huge, they were common. Designed to place a key or a pair of keys where to tool is in this pic. The key would rotate out when used, tucked in the pouch when in the pocket. Keys were great for wearing holes in pockets. These snap pouches prevented that. Those 3 bladed tools were also common back in the day. Usually came with a beaded key chain.

Looks to me like somebody put these two items together. If you haven't figured it out yet, the pivot point should screw apart. It was screwed back together through the key hole, so the key could rotate in and out of the pouch...kind of like a jack knife blade functions.

Also, I'd like to add that the widow may or may not have been "conned", depending on when she sold. The pre '74 early 911 values didn't really begin to take off until the mid 90's.
