San Diego is the perfect Targa Town! |
Bought ours 6 weeks before we got married in 1971. So, I guess that makes it 48+ years now.

I sold the Targa to a friend when I got orders to Patuxent River...he begged me for the car! When I got to Pax, 1988 time frame, I bought this 1983 911SC and drove it almost ten years until I got another Targa, a 1994 964. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581004549.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581004620.jpg |

Great thread....nice to know I'm not the only old guy on here.
Been driving p-cars for 48 years. Got me searching around for some old pics. All I could come up with at the moment. Started with '65 356SC Cab in 1972. It's the little white spec! Wish I had more pics...or the actual car. Back then it was just another used car so nothing special. Bought it for $1500; sold it 3 years later for $2000 and thought I did good. LOL. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581013845.jpg Rolled some of that $2k into a beat up '71 sunroof coupe. Competed a total restoration with the help of my uncle and an old friend Troy. Sold it for $9k 6 years later...another lol. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581014075.jpg Moved on from there to a variety of other sports cars, but always came back to the Porsche family. '82SC Targa Chiffon white-brown interior. Gorgeous color combo. '86 Carrera Sunroof Coupe in Alpine White w/Blk interior '87 Carrera Targa Marine Metallic w/Linen/blk interior '89 944S2 Alpine white with matching factory color wheels-Linen interior 73.5 Targa Light Ivory-Blk almost road ready for this Spring. Older pic. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581015392.jpg Nice to go down memory lane! Great run of owning and driving some fantastic cars. |

This is me in my 914 1974 probably in 1976 or 77. I had the leather visor by then and I got that on a road trip from Montgomery, to New Orleans, then to Houston, then to Oklahoma City. That was my first fun road trip not for business just for vacation. I grew a mustache shortly after this picture, and a full beard a few months later. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581020022.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581020131.jpg My toy since 1995. |

The only picture of my 914. Check out dive 1982. All other pictures lost to Katrina. We took the 914 because all the dive gear would not fit in the 911. Wife in foreground. |
Shadowjack, it looks like you married well!! +++

I found some of those older pictures. Bought my car in 1993. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581077729.jpg Glad this picture is blurry! Who is that guy? This was on the base at Miramar. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581077729.jpg The golf course. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581077729.jpg Coronado....I think. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581077729.jpg WD, Quote:

I was at the SH-60B hangers across NAS, but a lot of my friends flew H-3's and 46's out of the "double domes". I have about 15 hours in the H-46. Interesting aircraft! I am going to go through the oldies and scan some more. Thanks! |
the above pic brings up the interesting question of whether a 911 will fit in the back of a Chinook?
or do you have to sling load it? |
Oh my, I just love these old pics.

I bought my first Porsche in 1984, it was a 944. I drove that as my daily for 10 years before selling it in 1994. At that point I had 2 kids which made that car very impractical so moved onto SUVs. It wasn't until 2012 I bought another Porsche, this time my 83sc and then again last year I bought myself a project 68 911, can't help myself...

First Porsche: '63B convertible purchased in 1968 in Germany when I was in the army. I brought it home with me in '70 and sold it a couple of years later for a ham sandwich.

53 years. Bought a used 66 912 in 67 and have had a Porsche ever since. Still have the 70T I bought new in Madrid. It's been across the pond 3 times. Just returning it to the road after an
engine fire. Survivor. |

This was my first Porsche, a '66 912. Traded my '73 Alfa Spider to my brother straight across. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581463606.jpg Wife was pissed when I got home with it. She asked where was her pretty little blue Alfa. Took some explaining to convince her that the rebuilt engine and trans in the 912 was worth more than the Alfa alone. My brother had bought the 912 for the Perfect 4.5 Fuchs that were on it. Engine had a broken crank. He ended up configuring an engine [CE modified heads w/big valves, Shasta pistons (11.5:1 CR), Norris cam] and had his buddy, the late Duane Spencer, assemble it for him. I eventually found a car with a better body as the '66 had a really sad hood. The '67 Sunroof coupe had a bad engine so my son and I did a power train swap. That car took me to a lot of 912 Rendezvous and got me into the P-car scene. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581464113.jpg When my knee started to give me trouble, my brother had the answer. A '78 911 SC with a Sportomatic trans in it. Again, we swapped straight across. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581464249.JPG He still has the sunroof 912. When I got laid off back in '12 my wife said I could either sell the 911 or keep the Accord. I kept the appliance and haven't regretted it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581464452.JPG The yellow Alfa is what really started it all. It was a 'free to me' finders fee I charged my brother when I found him a 356 that he made a bunch of money off of. My son and I started to restore it when I found the blue Alfa through a friend at work. Since the blue car was running already we just took all the things off the yellow car that we'd had refurb'd for it, and put them on/into the blue car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581464629.JPG All in all it's been a fun journey and I still get to live vicariously through my brother since he's still got a mess of P-cars to play with. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581464791.JPG |
