go rubens.....go rubens......

rubens has the pole for brazil, mark weber almost had him though :)
that is one happy little hans wearing brazilian :D

nostatic 04-05-2003 10:33 AM

I thought Weber was going to have it...he was faster through the twisties.

Should be a good race! Nice to see MS back in the pack for a change. Hopefully he drives a more sensible race this week.

Paco Anton 04-05-2003 05:08 PM

Being currently in Brazil I was tempted to go to the circuit but the logistics were too complicated :(

Bell, are you taping this race again? If you need soomebody to tell you the results again before you see it, I continue available :D

PS: Go, Alonso Go!!

bell 04-05-2003 08:35 PM

actually i'll be up early tomorrow to watch it live (7:30am/eastern) then i'll be in the garage working on the carrera:D

Tinton 04-06-2003 05:02 AM

Lets hope for a close race. It would be great to see Mark Webber score some points.

Finally, we in Australia get to see a race live, even if it is 3 in the morning....

Anyone know what the track conditions are like? I heard there was some serious rain in qualifying! I'm in agreement with jacques villenueves comments, again.

Bell

I believe its a 1pm EDT start, so sleep in!

bell 04-06-2003 07:35 AM

yea i realized that this morning:D oh well......i just got back from harbor freight, picked up some new saftey wire plyers and a bunch of other miniscule stuff:D i think i did this last year too when they we in brazil......

bell 04-06-2003 01:16 PM

poor rubens.......just his bad luck.
i missed the last crash that red flagged the race due to a phone call, alonso looked like he'll be alright though, i'll catch the crash on re-run tonite.
interesting race to say the least considering the track conditions.

nostatic 04-06-2003 01:24 PM

the two crashes that red flagged it were truly nasty. Webber's was a total bummer, especially after he saved it after the spin midway through the race (amazing driving). You have to feel for the Jordan crew and Fisachella...he did a totally clean pass of Raikkonen and deserved to have the win. I don't understand why the rule goes 2 laps back instead of one.

I thought the safety car driver should have gotten a podium appearance.

Paco Anton 04-06-2003 01:36 PM

Did you count the cars piled up in that corner? 5? 6? :o

My wife is visiting me in Brazil next week and keeps asking about the weather. Next time she asks I'll tell her to see the race :D

Reg 04-06-2003 02:07 PM

It was amazing that Alonso had not slowed down in time to be able to avoid the debris. Let's hope he is OK.

Too bad really , as the last few laps would have been very interesting had the race not been stopped.

The teams/ tire suppliers were supposedly only allowed one choice for rain tires with them all opting for intermediates clearly in conditions that warranted full wets.

Expect that rule to be changed.

Quite a spectacle. Not sure I can call it a race. More like Russian Roulette and Demolition Derby. Spectacular crashes - Button spearing the wall, the Weber and Alonzo disintegrations, and the parking lot where M. Schumacher went off. He was lucky to miss the front-end loader that was removing the prior parkees. Feel sorry for Fisicella, Barrichello and Weber. We certainly are getting off to an interesting start this season. Nice to see McLaren, Jaguar and Renault doing better, even if I am rooting for Ferrari. Dunno about why you roll the race two laps back for a red flag but maybe that's to prevent the guy who caused the race stop to become the winner, if he were the leader.

Oh, and does anyone know more about the safety car and its driver? Very impressive, to haul a$$ like that around a very wet track for lap after lap, without losing it. Ever see the lap times for the safety car? How fast do you think that Merc sedan is, compared to some of the board members' track cars (like BB2, etc)?

nostatic 04-06-2003 09:35 PM

They talked a bit about the car...Mercedes with 450bhp and 600lb/ft of torque(!). Evidently the driver is a verteran of European touring car races.

that corner is a full throttle uphill left that is blind, i'm sure he saw the yellow but he was commited and had no where to go.
i too hope he's alright, it looked like it rang his bell pretty good.
