What is an internet influencer ?
I realize I am out of touch with modern times but I keep seeing stories about internet influencer's ............. what the heck is that ? 🤔
I am sure it has to do with social media or something like that . Does anyone still work for a living ? I am so glad I am retired . 😁 |

They are people with wildly popular social media accounts.
A single mention of a product can generate millions of dollars in sales. It may well be the best advertising value in the history of the industry. Work for a living? You try to get 10,000,000 followers on any social media platform and then we can talk about your piddling like 50 hours a week career which is a total joke compared to the insane work these people put in to build their channels.

Earned media is publicity a firm gains from promotional efforts other than paid advertising. Earned media value is a monetary representation of this publicity. Businesses who understand influencer marketing gain impressive returns, up to $18 in earned media value for every dollar they spend on influencer marketing.

Not all of them. Influencer is a title given to a lot of wannabees these days.

So the goal of an influencer is to sell a product or service ? So they are a salesperson ?

Typically they are individuals with large followings on social media, sometimes they're content creators. Most celebrities also fall into that category. However, they're not all smart (surprise). Read up on the Fyre Festival if you want a good laugh.
Side note - I actually work with an "Influencer". She auditioned on American Idol about 10 years ago, ironically can't carry a tune. She has still maintained a social following somehow, is incredibly awkward, and can be annoying 75% of the day. She gets offers every now and then from companies to promote products or mention them.

I'm sure you've heard of two or three of these names - this gives you an idea of what insane money these people make from posting a picture of a product in their hand and mentioning it via hashtag on their post:
Entrepreneur Kylie Jenner makes an estimated $1 million per sponsored post on her Instagram, which makes her the highest paid celebrity influencer on the social media platform, according to the 2018 Instagram Rich List compiled by Hopper HQ, an automated Instagram scheduler. Jenner is followed by singer Selena Gomez, who gets $800,000 per sponsored post, and star soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, who earns $750,000. Together, these and other up-and-coming stars contribute to the $1 billion influencer market, which is expected to double in value by 2019. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/31/kylie-jenner-makes-1-million-per-paid-instagram-post-hopper-hq-says.html

Think of them as people who have figured out how to make commercials people want to watch and then buy.

An influencer can be anyone w a large internet following. The celebrities mentioned above are only extreme examples. Do you want to be an influencer and get paid for posting on the internet? Simple. Just amasss a few hundred thousand followers on IG or YouTube. Piece of cake.
![]() I have a friend, (not a famous person), whose kid has something like 12M followers on each platform. The kid is a bajillionaire and dad had to quit his executive job to manage kid’s career. He’s too young to travel w/o parent or guardian.

Below is a vid he posted in early 2018, back when he had maybe 50M subscribers. Nine million views. FWIW, he swears in this video some and YouTube clamped down, across the board, on this behavior over the last two years demonetizing videos with unfavorable content. I bet more than 18 of these monster desktop units were sold...... I don't see him doing these kinds of videos of late.

The money the top "influences" make is insane.
There are around 20 people on YouTube who earn over $20,000,000 a month and more than a hundred that earn around a $1,000,000 every month!. Instagram has lots of them... Insane money that most of us here can't even comprehend. (Imagine the good you could do with $20,000,000 a month!) These little kids have 21,374,227 subscribers and all they do is play with toys. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChGJGhZ9SOOHvBB0Y4DOO_w/featured The Kardashians are small fry in comparison. I'm rather envious to be honest... ![]()
