my wife really wants me to sell my motorcycle.

she witnesses a lot of motorcycle crashes. (i never see them)

today: she is sitting at a red light waiting for the green. there is a sport bike next to her in the left turn only lane. the motorcycle get the green arrow to go, but before he can a pickup truck comes up the striped median, gets into the left turn lane, and sees only the green arrow and GOES. he never saw the biker! my wife said the rider was punted out into the intersection right before her eyes. i could hear the stress in her voice. the rider broke his leg, i think.

i swear she is about to start sending me Craiglists ads for vintage FJ40's.

She must love you, Vash. Otherwise, she'd have bought a high value term life insurance policy on you. If she does that, get nervous.

I apologize for taking her side in the battle, but she is right.

Just before I left the work force one of the older guys in the group got into motorcycles. Got himself a BMW K100. One day he's on his way home, sitting at a stop sign. Women comes up from behind and doesn't stop. Smacks him across the intersection.
After that he got himself a newer Triumph. I forget what type of close call he had with it, but it was close enough to cause him to sell it and get an old BMW car to mess with.

What made me buy my bike was when a buddy of mine came over
and said hey, what about me and you buying some Harleys and ride together.
I said I would love to but need to talk to my wife first.
He pulled out a tape measure and pulled it out to 76 inches. He said the
lifetime expectancy of a man in the US is 76. Pointed to the 50 Inch mark and said
here is where we are. If there is something you want to do, better do it soon.
By the way she thought it was a great idea.

Riding a bike increases the likelihood of that 26 inches getting much shorter.

I have log told myself that I'd never sell my current bike. It's been with me for 22 years and has been ridden to countless rallies and events all over the country. It is truly a part of my life. I've had 4 other bikes during the years that I have owned this one, and have had no issue selling any of the others.

This one is special. To me. You know what I mean.

Anyway--with each passing year I become less and less attached to it, as I simply do not trust anyone in a cage to see or react to me when I'm out on the bike. I'm not kidding when I say that every time I've had it out over the last few years, there has been a close call. A close call. No good. I don't want to die because some half-with is texting trivial nonsense instead of paying attention.

So it's for sale. I won't give it away, and I am not in a hurry, but it will be sold. I will be without a motorcycle for the first time since I was about 12.

I also must point out that as I live in the middle of a city, I must ride nearly 30 miles to get anywhere near the secondary roads, and that is on a very congested interstate. If that isn't enough to pucker your a-hole, then I don't know what is. Hell, I can barely stomach this city in a car anymore!

Anyway--I see where your wife's concern is, and she clearly loves you. Take that into consideration and make the best decision you can.

Good luck.

I sold all my bikes a bunch of years ago, and got my 911.

It's almost as much fun, and it has a heater! What's not to like.

I had a few motorcycles, one very fast big one, that the wife went on with me.
We went really fast and far and had great times, but then one day, I was just done.
No issues, no crashes, some close calls, yes, but no crashes.
Sometimes I look at the bikes out there, and think about I should get one, but then I remember that now it's been a few years, and my edge is gone. So cars for me.

I have all my legs and arms, and it was fun for a long while,
I hope this helps. It's all ok.

Alternatively switch to off-road/trail riding. No cars. Avoid cliffs.

Agreed bikes are not dangerous but it’s the other drivers on the road. I have a hotrod 75 911 that feels like a motorcycle so I’ll stick with that. I actually enjoy just looking at my motorcycles so they serve as superb garage art for me. Pour a glass of wine and just enjoy them for their aesthetic beauty. I still ride once in awhile but it’s getting less appealing with traffic getting worse in my area.

I started riding in the late '60s. My bike was my only transportation for quite a while. I rode it in the rain, snow, freeways, cities, mountains, and back roads. I quit riding for several years, because I felt like my number was coming up - especially from people who would make left turns in front of me. My current bike old but the fastest I've ever had. But now I live in a rural area where it feels like it's much safer. I wouldn't have a bike if I lived in or near the city.
